Gallien Krueger MB150S Crackling

My combo has developed an annoying crackling fizzing sort of sound when I play. It's not there when it's turned on and I'm plugged in but not playing, and it's not there all the time when I play. It seems to be associated with lower frequencies and middling volume (I don't play loudly: never more than half-way).

Any ideas what it might be? It isn't cable, or bass - other people have noticed it too. I took it to a tech but he couldn't help (he told me the circuit was an IC so he wouldn't have been able to help anyway ...).

Cheers all.

I had a somewhat similar problem (crackling fizzing noise) with my MB150S, but my amp also went completely dead every now and then and I had to shut it off and turn back on again (also sometimes crackled when turning on). The problem with my amp was that the power switch was basically worn out and I had to have a tech replace it. Don't know if this is the case with your amp, but could be worth checking out.

Cheers,

Dronnba

Dronnba, thanks. I'll see if that's the problem.

Check the input/output jacks. They will corrode lightly - especially the effects loop. Just get some contact cleaner from radio shack and spray all the jacks. Then take a 1/4 inch plug and cycle it in and out of each one a dozen times. If yours is like mine, it will be good to go.
