"I'll have to try taming the high mids on my gk neo cab! Nice idea! Where do you keep your other eq settings? Do you boost low mids? What about treble?"

are the GK NEO cabs inherently upper-mid voiced?
If so, might the RBH cabs be better suited to that lower mid throaty growl? (barring weight considerations)

Once you cut the high mids... you can pretty much do as you please
I personally prefer to to the opposite at the low mids & bass... ie boost 1, cut the other
If I want grind... I boost the low mids & cut the bass. More warmth? The opposite
I find I boost the treble a bit to make up for the high mid cut
IMO: GK cabs are best suited with warm tube amps, not solid states (Exclusions surely apply here) Sometimes GK amp & GK cab is too much of a grindy trebley ganky thing "for me" again IMO. I love the GK cabs, the NEO 115 stack & the 412 NEO with the Genz Streamliner.

Everyone here seems so against mixing speaker sizes. | The general rule of thumb is that you get more consistently good results by stacking like cabs. That being said, I had an opportunity to listen to a variety of GK cab combinations, and in the "big rig" category, I liked the 212/410 combo the best. YMMV, though. |

Here are my thoughts. I am thinking of selling my MB500 and getting either a pair of MB Fusion heads or 1 fusion head and 1 MB800 head to drive two separate Schroeder PL212 4 ohm cabs . I am thinking that this will essentially give me a clean rig and a dirty rig. just wondering if the MB fusion can get dirty or not. Or I could just get a pair of MB800 heads and keep running my sansamp for grit. the schroeder cabs are rated conservatively at 800 watts each more like 1000 in reality.

But it does not move the GK tone much into what is commonly thought of as a warmer, rounder, more vintage kind of tone. It is more like the difference between good solid state home audio gear and good tube home audio gear.
The MB Fusion can definitely get dirty, though, if you like. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
