Gallien Krueger Spkr Cabs: RBH 410 vs. NEO 410

Sign in to disble this ad
Just bought a GK RB 700, and need a cab. What are the sound differences between the 2? Is one better for 5 strings? Is there good low end with just a 4x10, or would a 2x12 or 1x15 be necessary also? Is there a really a $300 difference in performance? I like a good, full sound. Not just mids.

Thanks

Trust me a 115 is not need when it come to low end. Ran a 410/115 setup and the 115 was the weak link of the setup...would not ever do that again. I have not used the gk 410's...but i am pretty sure that ether one of then will kick pretty good! I do run a swr Goliath 410 and Megoliath 810 with my GK 1001rbII head and there is no lack of lowend out of ether one of them cab's...the 410 handles that b string with out any issues,it is quite punchy to say the least and and a very full rang sound not just mids then again i scoop my mids out a lil bit too!. Mind you it cant touch the 810 when it come to the b string just because it is well a beast...but yeah no the 410 is great...and if one is not enough just get 2 and you will never need anything more for well probably the rest of your playing life!! All the best!! Cheers mate!!`Elliot

I run a 2001RB with 2 NEO 2/12 II's using a 5 string and there is no lack of low end or anything for that matter. Nice smooth tone, but these combinations of GK gear gets all the tones you want or need imo....

Thanks Elliot and Peter! Good insight, and it's helping me narrow down to what I want to get. What's the difference in running a 4x10 vs a 2x12? Still hope to see opinions on RBH/NEO 4x10's. Must be some difference with NEO's being $300 less. I know they are lighter than the RBH's. Thanks for the input so far. This RB700 is itching to be used!

I just tried a GK Neo 210 with a 700rb and it didn't work nearly as well for me as my SWR Goliath III or Son of Bertha. I'm using a passive fender jazz bass, and somehow the GK Neo was missing something substantial in the midrange that the SWR's had. If I cranked the high mid control (1k) on the 700rb, it would sort of approximate what I liked in the SWR's, but I'd rather not have to make that massive EQ adjustment to get the tone I like. BTW, the biamped tweeter thing on the GK cabs didn't really add anything useful for me either, which was a bit of a letdown. Of course, everyone's taste is different, so you might like the GK Neo - I just felt like the 210 that I tried, while capable of loud volumes, was scooped, missing something the middle, and a bit muddy in the lows. Maybe that is what you get for a little over $400. Maybe the non-Neo speakers are different than this...

Having extensively gigged all the GK Neo cabs I'd have to agree with jeffkew. The 2x10 and 4x10 are very mid-shy. Neither had any batting inside, just wood. I opened it the 2x10 and lined all the internal surfaces with foam, made a noticeable difference. I use it on top of a Neo 1x15. The 2x10 or 4x10 alone doesn't have enough mids for rock IMO.
The RBH series, on the other hand, is perfect for rock. Mucho punch and grind. I greatly prefer the tone over the Neos but weight was the determining factor.

I am kinda along the same lines as jeff. I have always used GK heads and SWR Goliath cabs whether it be the 210,410,610 and now 810...and i have found the combination of SWR Cabs and GK Heads a hard one to beat. I had a GK 700 rb 210 combo once and it sounded ok....but yeah i am just a fan of the swr cabs...i find them very clean, clear and with a very tight punchy low end...the gk Heads just seam to bring out the best out of each of the cabs i have used!! It is what works for me and i stick to it. I think you will find a lot of people..at least i have meat a lot the like the same combo of GK and SWR...i kinda think it is the best of both worlds!!..and BTW not that it matters but SWR make a very Sweet looking cabs!! All the best Cheers Mate!!~Elliot
