Gallien Kruger RB400 115 Combo - too big and bulky

I'm after something smaller and lighter than my GK combo. The Orange SP212 has attracted my attention and I'm going down to Reddog's to see how it'll handle a low B.
The problem (economically) is that I'd need a new amp head too.

Here's a mad idea though but will it work ?
I love the sound of the GK amp, even though it's got too much functionality for me. Anyway is it possible to remove the amp head from the combo and use it stand alone ?
That would solve my economic problem and let me keep my sound (assuming the SP212 doesn't shape the tone too much)
