Gallien MB212 combo fix

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey, guys.
I saw an add on musicians friend for a Gallien MB212 combo amp that needs repair. Its selling for 300 bucks and If I could get it and fix it for a resonable price or by myself It would be a steal. The info says it powers up, but stays in protect mode. Is this an easy fix or is it not worth my while?

You could check with a local electronics shop. If you go to the GK website, they have a listing of authorized repair centers in the US. Bench rate will probably be around $80/hr, so figure at least 1-2 hours and then parts.

Not sure if GK warranty is transferable, but you may want to check.

Good Luck!

Yes it can be fixed yourself...if you are a qualified electronic tech with amp building / repairing experience. If not you may kill yourself. This advice is coming from someone with well over 40 years experience in amp electronics both tube and SS...design, fabrication and repair.

I know nothing about fixing amps, i was just giving you an avenue if you can't do it yourself...

For safety reasons, I wouldn't recommend you working on/fixing and amp if you don't know what you are doing, just my .02 on that.

Maybe you ought to call a local shop and describe what it is doing and see if they could give you a ball park estimate or suggestion.

Good Luck!

this is a hard question to answer. how experienced are you at repair work? Can you troubleshoot? Solder? Can you read a schematic?

Not a bad deal if you don't have to take it somewhere to get it repaired. Paying someone to repair can get pretty pricey. Add that to the purchase price and it may just as much as buying new.

sorry I'm not much help.
my feeling is that if you have to ask you probably don't have the experience that may be necessary to make this a good deal. I know I am making an assumption - please make an a$$ out of me.

Not going to be a good deal considering you don't get a warranty

It'd make a sweet cab, though. 2x12, 500 watts, superlight. I could buy that and hook it up with a carvin Bx500 and still have room for an extention cab.

Actually, I was going to suggest that if it turns out it is too expensive to fix. It probably wouldn't be too expensive to convert, but I could be wrong...and I wouldn't know how to do it anyway...

Could be as simple as a shorted speaker cable or as complex as an output stage pegged to one of its rails.
