GB Rip off?

Sign in to disble this ad
Tired of great tone? Need to get rid off all that sweet bottom end and lower mid-range puch that all bassists desire?

Need an amp that clips out at gig volumes on every single transient?

We have the answer.

It's the GBE750. By Genz Benz.

It's the best way to make your '77 Jazz sound like a drumstick hitting a wet cardboard box in the dunny.

Best of all, it weighs a ton and can buckle rack ears in a thrice!

What more could you want?

Buy one and change your vibe.

I'm pretty sure you're going to be shouted down pretty quickly by those of us that have had great dealings with GB. I've owned some of their gear, and all of it has been great. I've dealt with their customer service, and they are top notch.

I hope that I do. I really WANT to be proven wrong here.

It's kind of a veiled plea for help, I just can't seem to make it work, try as I may....

What cabs are you using, and what are you doing with EQ?
What amp does your cab sound good with?

Did you buy this amp new or used? In either case, the physical attributes of the amp and your ignorance of them are entirely your fault. It is what it is, my friend. If the damn thing weighs a hundred and two pounds, that is openly published. If you didnt' read the spec sheet, well...

The only potentially valid complaint you make is about the clipping. But unless the amp is defective (possible) more likely you are either running it into too low an ohm load (what cab?) or you're overdriving, and overheating it (unlikely, but possible).

So, what I'm saying is either you got a bum amp, which happens AND GB WILL TAKE CARE OF YOU. Or, you're doing something wrong.

The GB750, like any GB bass amp, is nice piece of equipment and their customer service is first-rate. YES; I have personal, first-hand experience (exactly two times) with their CS and they flat out rock. Sure; maybe you got a dud. But we need more info. As does GB, to be fair to you AND their product.

You've got a weird way of asking for help.

Since there are thousands of happy GB owners we can assume you've already been proven wrong. Now, answer a few of the questions asked of you above and you might actually get a helpful response.

I should hope not. The OP joined 6 years ago, has a full profile, etc. No...I think he's just pissed off. I get that. Nobody like it when they spend lotsa dough on gear and it farts out on them. Whether or not the problem is user error or malfunctioning gear is the issue here.

Yup,

first thing I did after reading this entire thread was to scroll back up to see what his join date was; that can often explain some "troll-rants".

I've owned the GBE600, GBE750 and still own a modded Neopak and Streamliner 900. So I kinda wish OP would reply with some more info to maybe come to a resolution...for him and/or us.

Weighs a ton?!

I just looked up the GBE750 and the thing only weighs 33 pounds.

Either something is wrong with the amp, if so I am sure Genz Benz will sort it out for you, or you simply don't like it.

Not exactly a rip-off in either case.

My first guess would be either user error or a malfunction.

In either case you'll need to calm down and give some more detailed info.

Wow.. the OP should be ashamed of this thread. I don't think I've seen anyone ask for help and advice in this way.

The title is bad enough.

Quite a bizarre thread. Might we assume a little after hours indulging in adult beverages?

Maybe he should trade it in for the much lighter SVT-CL :P

Was this amp originally made for the Australian market or was it modded?

+1 to all of the above. Given that the far less powerful GBE 400 served me exceptionally well for years and that my GBE 1200 (10 pounds heavier) has been in the same rack for 4 years now without issue, I'm inclined to lean heavily toward severe operator error/a faulty unit and a POS rack.

As with the other replies, I'd be interred in knowing your setting and what cabs are you using. Does this happen all of the time or just sometimes?
