GB shuttle 6.0: which combo?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi everyone,

I am a beginner that is doing good progress and who has saved some spare cash. I have decided to use it on a good combo, since I am getting a bit frustrated with my old practice amp. At this point I am looking at the two Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0 combos, the 112T and the 210T.

I am getting the impression that the 112T is way more popular among TBers (and elsewhere on the web). Eg, some reviewers on MF mentioned that portability-wise the 210T was less than ideal (lack of side handles/casters, problems with top handle breaking).

Does anyone have any experience comparing the two? is the 2x10 worth the extra hundred bucks? i understand the general implications of 1x12 vs 2x10 in sound terms, but in your experience how do these two particular cabs compare?

I am mostly into rock and blues and was wondering if paying extra for the 2x10 with get me a noticeable improvement in terms of sound when playing with friends (incl vaguely wild drummer).

I am stuck with buying these blind off the web ("deaf", would be a better term ), so any input is most welcome.

thank you for any insight!
~l

Good luck with your decision. The first - and most obvious comment - if you can, try 'em both. See which one really works for you.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of 210's in general, and don't care for this one in specific. Doesn't seem to do much very well, IMO. The 12, on the other hand, just seems to work really, really well. I love this amp! It gets a lot louder than I expected, and through just about every bass I play, it sounds terrific. (I don't like it through my really "hi-fi" instruments - Sadowsky Modern and MTD.)

I've had my 6.0-12T for quite awhile now, and I really love it. It's my practice amp, my rehearsal amp, and my go-to for small gigs. The saddle setup is perfect, and at ~ 32lbs, load-in/out is a breeze. Nice small footprint too, so it works really well in tight confines.

I think it depends on your preference but you can't really go wrong with either. I own a 6.0 (I didn't get a combo) but use an avatar B210 Neo. For me 2 x10"s are perfect. Great amp.

I have the 12t and recently looked at getting a second cab. My local store had a killer sale on a new 12 extension but also had a used 210 so I tried both. Ended up getting the 12 extension. But then keep in mind I'm into a very "vintage" sound. To me, 10s always tend to sound "tight" and "modern." Keep in mind also I hearken back to the days of 18" folded horn cabs so my reference is a REALLY big "woof."

^ Pretty much may same experience on the extension cab. The deal was too good not to buy. And no regrets - running the amp @ 4-ohms into two of those cabs makes for some serious output. I drove a 14-piece band in a large room with no problems whatsoever. Makes for a terrific modular rig - 32lbs for a lot of stuff, and an extra 28-ish when you want to raise pulses.

Reinforcing my first post - and what others have said - if there's a way, test drive both. The 210 cab may be perfect for you.

thank you all for your great help. this forum is awesome.

i tend to like it "vintage-y" so i am generally in the same boat as vroomvroom and gm2_in_co.

with this in mind, a short question: how does a pair of shuttle 12" cabs (Shuttle combo 112T + 12" extension cab) compare to a pair of GB's NEO-X 12" when plugged into a Shuttle 6.0? these cabs are roughly the same weight and price, and in these forums people often mention using the neo-x with this amp head. is there a reason why?

please let me know your experiences/impressions.

ps: again if i could test them in person i would. none of my two local shops carries any of this gb stuff.
