GB Shuttle 6.0 Tube Swap..???

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey now,

Ill preface by saying I LOVE MY 6.0!

Ive read a bit and see varying comments regarding the tube section of this head. Some say its subtle at best and others state its distinct . Just curious if anyone has done any tube swapping and your thoughts/results. Not really sure what Im looking for in a swap , more in the gassy realm right now.

Im looking at Sovtek and Tungsol at the moment and NO clue what im looking for.

I love my Shuttle 6.0 as well, but have thought the same thing about swapping out tubes. I found this page that has some interesting information:

http://thetubestore.com/12ax7review.html and their pricing page: http://thetubestore.com/12ax70ectyp.html

For around $20, it can't hurt to just give a tube swap a try, right?

Subscribed to see what others have for input!

Search and you will find at least a couple of threads on this. I did some swapping and was hard pushed to tell the difference. I ended up with a Telefunken which wasn't cheap but seemed to add more grit, and earlier. The only tube that I could tell a discernible difference..

I've been doing some searching around, and like LightGroove mentioned, I've been seeing mixed responses. Some people say it's not worth a swap, others say it helps (last one I saw mentioned the Sovtek LPS and how it made the Shuttle more musical).

At the very least, I put in a different tube and don't notice a difference... then I've got a backup tube on hand in case one fails.

our genz benz pal agedhorse said they they designed the shuttles to have not much variance when you change tubes. that way the shuttle has a more consistent sound instead of changing with the tube. for some people that might not be as fun, but for me that just means i could throw a jj in there instead of a telefunken and be happy with it

Huh... Fair enough! I love the sound of my Shuttle, so a tube swap would be more curiosity for me than anything else.
