GB Shuttle 9.0 - CAB MATCH!!!

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys,

So, after having heavily flirted with Markbass I think I am about to plump for the GB Shuttle 9.0 and saying adieu to stoopid heaviness.

Question for you - I play both smaller and bigger gigs (stylewise, from alt rock through jazz/funk to r&b) and need a multi-cab solution.

I am thinking that either:

1 x NEO 2x12 and 1 x NEO 1x12 (which I could then double cab)

or

2 x NEO 2x10s

Brandwise, I was thinking Berg, Epifani or Aguilar. I do have currently a GK NEO 212ii which is a pretty cool cab, but I am thinking it may be a little bright/linear for the Shuttle.

Thoughts?

Cheers!
Gordon

I liked the neox 212 but i sold it back to my friend for two reasons 1. He needed an amp again and didn't own one (cause i bought it from him) 2. Because the 115 emi loaded cab i already owed also had better low end then the neo loaded cab

I prefer GB's Uber series cabs. You owe it to yourself to check out the Uber 212- pure greatness.

you cannot run 2 NeoX 212's with a shuttle 9.0. They are 4 ohm cabs.

I own the Shuttle 9.0 and ended up (after trying/owning/playing a number of cabs) going with two of the Berg HT112ER Cabs.

For using just one 2x12 Cab I recomend the Genz Ubber 2x12.

If I were you I'd get either a 4 ohm 2x12 or two 8 ohm 1x12's or heck maybe a 4 ohm 2x12 and a 1x12 for small gigs.

Multi-cab question....

Here's the thing - I am thinking that given the 500 into 8 Ohm output of the 9.0, that I probably really need two cabs to give me a workable small/larger gig setup - so...

Is there a 1 x 12 cab that offers the ability to take a Shuttle 9.0 alone, or maybe a 2 x 10?

That way, doubling up would enable me to unleash the 900 watt output for larger shows.

Berg 112s....

Is one of them enough to cope with the Shuttle at 8 ohms? They are rated at 350w, I think, right?

The Genz Benz Neox 1x12 as well as the Bergantino HT112ER cabs will take the 500 watts easy. I like the sound/weight of the Genz NEOX but they are a little bigger than I like.

Here is a funny story.

I had to play a gig with a hard rock band a while back. There was no cab available so I used a Yamaha 2x18 Sub cab with the Shuttle 9.0. I was not thinking and reached over turned the master up to about 3/4, hit a few notes and cleared the room. Peple were running for cover. They thought WWIII had broken out.

I have had the Bergs for a few months now and have not had any trouble out of them. I play in a fairly loud band too. That being said I never try to see how far I can push them nor do I not get all carried away with being scared of hurting them either. I just get the loudness level I need and play.

I like it!

That's awesome. I have heard similar stories about the Shuttle 9.0. I cannot wait!

The other cab I was thinking of was the Schroeder 1210 - it gets amazing reviews, but I can't find it down here in NOLA to try it. I was thinking that it would do as a general cab, and then I could plump for a smaller cab too....

It's so hard when you can't try stuff! A couple of folks have suggested I pick up two Uber 2 x10s. That sounds about right, methinks...

Two Ubber 2x10 cabs might be a good way to go as well.

I noticed on the Genz Benz site the new Ubber Cabs are up on the site and they have changed the look of the NEOX cabs by going away from the carpet.

I really really like the Genz Benz Company/People. These guys are as good as it gets in offering design/knowledge/advice/service/quality...................... just all around the best.

Thanks RP. We actually made the decision to change from rat fur to Tolex on our NeoX series because of comments on this forum.

Genz you guys really impress me with listening to us!

Those Neo 212 etc cabs look much more modern now....even though I dont mind rat fur...but yep...modern!

I cannot believe how cool the Uber 15 and Quad seem....I REALLY want to try two Quads with a Shuttle 9.0.

I like rat fur..it keeps the head from moving around and I can tilt the cab back and not have the head slide off. I shouldnt have to buy anything to keep the head from moving about I say.

But the tolex does look nice.

I've been using the Schroeder 1210R with my Shuttle 9 and really like it. It gets as loud as I need to to for most of my gigs, sounds great, and I can do load-in with the cab in one hand, the bass and head on my back, and my pedalboard in the other hand.

Stands up to two guitarists, a keyboardist, and a loud drummer without working up a sweat. It's a bit mid-heavy compared to most cabs, but it sits very nicely in a band mix. I never have an issue hearing myself.

Sound....& flexibility

Hmm.....sounds interesting. Would the Schroeder 1210 function as a flexible enough cab for smaller gigs too? I cannot imagine having 900 watts into 4 ohms being a controllable beast..

How does it sound? Any way of describing it?

My Shuttle 9.0 is on the way so I'll report in once I gig it with my beloved rat fur covered NeoX 212.

I happen to like the rat fur personally for it's durability and it's kindness to my leather car seats, although I don't care for how much it enjoys grass and leaves and other things it picks up on outdoor shows.

But kudos to the Genz team for listening to their customers.
