GB shuttle cab/head mod ("the lobot")

Sign in to disble this ad
hey all,
so, i have a shuttle 9 head (which is super sweet) that i use to drive a genz benz 10" cab (extension cab for the STL10 combo). i got tired of just setting the head on the little cab and not being able to angle the cab up (even more tired of having to carry two separate things) so i decided to affix them together.

i dub the resulting monstrosity "the lobot".

i started with some junction box covers from lowes (~$0.50 ea) and coaxed them into the the desired shape

then i laid out my "chassis" on the side of the cab and screwed them in place.

then dry-fitted the head before painting the frames black

results:
- sounds and looks great.
- the screw holes are not visible when the chassis is removed and don't penetrate the cab wall.
- i wish it were easier to remove the head. the stock chassis (which does not fit the shuttle 9 head) has a nicer thumbscrew-type tighten/loosen fixture for easier removal
- although light enough to very easily carry, it's not balanced.

Great job! I've been thinking of doing something similar with my 6.0 and TB110 cab. What you may need now is a custom cover for the whole apparatus, so that you don't feel weird leaving the amp attached when you're finished playing and packing up. I'm sure Lecover or similar company could make you what you need if you supply the dimensions and "story." Looks great!
