Simple answer: endorsement | Wrong answer. :-)
The speaker output of the amp goes into the speaker sims. It functions as a load box and DI. Alex uses the same devices with his H&K amp heads.
Note that there are two Palmer Speaker sims and two Orange heads. I think in the massive Geddy thread where his former bass tech used to post, it was said that he splits his signal several ways.
Of course, I could be wrong. Ged won't return my calls.

Brian | +1!
Geddy used to use Trace Elliot valve poweramps,(Quattro?) to warm up his tone/signal. Which is probably what he is using the new Oranges for. These have eq though where the Trace Elliot's were just tube poweramps. His signal went from the Trace amps to the Palmers. Geddy's old tech Russ Ryan ran a Trace Elliot 4x10 out of the amps because he thought they might blow up! The 4x10 was hidden beneath the stage.
Geddy doesn't strike me as a person that needs endorsements. He was probably just looking for something to update his Trace gear.

My name is Chris, I'm a bass-aholic. | | Join Date: Nov 2001 Location: Chicago | | | I believe in reading Russ Ryan's posting that the Palmer does not have the loadbox or like the newer version it can do preamp or speaker, there is a switch. Russ said they thought it sounded better with a speaker on it vs. not (the 8ohm loadbox) that the Palmer could have.

Can use the "thru" which bypasses the loadbox, but then requires a speaker which would fit Russ's description. This lets you use 200w amp.

| | | Incredibly creative gear, it looks so cool.
I bet all the real sound comes from modeling/emulation/simulation on the PC
Orange makes a PC amp. Surprised he's not using it.

Could be mic'ed. Cool color and nice tube amp. Guessing like Russ had pointed out Geddy is a creature of habit. Look at all those Jazz Basses!!

When they got signed that's when the 4001 showed up.

If you go see them, or some other arena concert look next to the FOH board. More and more you'll see a PC or two hooked right in. Same plugs used in the studio are used live.

Gonna be some dudes copying the settings on those SansAmps!!! |

Geddy is still using the '72 Jazz, it has a new Custom Shop neck. Maple with mother of pearl block inlays.
Take Care,
Brent
