TBers -

You may have seen my post yesterday about tone tutoring. Today I am reaching out to the Genz 6.0 owners out there. I am running my Genz 6.0 through an Ampeg SVT 410 classic and am looking for different tone approaches. What are you doing?

Copy and paste from below and answer ... if you would be so kind:

I play this kind of music:
I am using this kind of cab:
My main bass is:
Preamp gain-
Preamp volume-
Low-
Mid-
Mid Freq-
High-
LF boost (on/off)-
Mid scoop (on/off)-
HF attack (on/off)-

An example may be -

I play this kind of music: Bar rock
I am using this kind of cab: Ampeg 410SVT classic
My main bass is: MIA Fender P-bass
Preamp gain- 1:00
Preamp volume- 3:00
Low- 1:00
Mid- 11:00
Mid Freq- 10:00
High- 1:00
LF boost (on/off)- on
Mid scoop (on/off)- off
HF attack (on/off)- off

I'll play.
I play this kind of music: Soul, Neo Soul, R&B, rock, blues

I play a Lakland 55-02 and will go back and forth between favoring the front pickup for a more old school sound to the backup pup for a tighter more defined tone.

I am using this kind of cab: 2 Avatar neo B210s
Preamp gain- 2:00
Preamp volume- 11:00
Low- 1:00
Mid- 1:00
Mid Freq- 10:00
High- 12:00
LF boost (on/off)- depends on the room, sometimes I find it to be too boomy
Mid scoop (on/off)- off
HF attack (on/off)- off

I saw Doug Johns the other day playing through a 6.0 using a GB Uber 410
His standard setting for the mids mids 7 o'clock (-15) and mid freq 5 o'clock (2 khz)

This is pretty typical although it does vary some depending upon the style of music, room dynamics, instrument choice, etc.

I play this kind of music: Classic Rock, Blues, Funk, Reggae
I am using this kind of cab: GB Uber 212 or Aguilar DB115
Preamp gain- 11:00
Preamp volume- 11:00
Low- 12:30
Mid- 1:00
Mid Freq- 10:00
High- 10:00
LF boost (on/off)- depends on which instrument I use
Mid scoop (on/off)- sometimes on, sometimes off
HF attack (on/off)- off

Edit: I thought I remembered seeing this: Shuttle 6.0 settings question.

I play this kind of music: Rock, Reggae
Fender P bass.
I am using this kind of cab: Peavey 410TX
Preamp gain- 2
Preamp volume- 10
Low- 10
Mid- 2
Mid Freq- 2
High-12
LF boost (on/off)- on
Mid scoop (on/off)- on

The marketing guy from Genz Benz had a setting on TB last week that I tried, but my cab has so much booty i had to turn the bass down and the mid's up. I think we should also say what kind of bass we are playing because they have different tonal voices.

Great idea, Floridabwoy! I edited the OP to add that. If you've already posted, please edit your response to add that info. Thanks!

I haven't tried Doug Johns' setting yet but want to give it a whirl. He eq's it that way to get the inherent "honk" out of the Pedulla he plays with. My guess is that it won't be my cup o' tea but worth a shot.

Floridabwoy are you talking about the setting where the mid-freq is set all the way to the left (7 o'clock)? Like Ed Frieldand uses.

Note that Doug's playing style is anything but the norm. Generally, that's a lot of mid to get rid of for most playing styles. His is the exception to the rule of course.

Most definitely but since I would never normally EQ something to that kind of extreme it would be interesting to at least hear. Doug also mentioned that it had a lot to do with the tone of his bass.

I was at the Genz Benz Open House at Westwood Music last week and had a chance to hear him and meet him.
It was also great getting the opportunity to meet Jeff Genzler and play through the Streamliner and Uber cabs.
Genz Benz is the best!

Yes... his settings were

eq in "o'clock" format:
lows: 2
mid boost: 2
mid freq: 8
highs 10 to 12

signal shaping:
LF on
Mid on
Hi off
