Genz Benz 1200GBE vs Streamliner 900

Sign in to disble this ad
I was about to pull the trigger on a Streamliner 900 based on comments i have read on TB. But than i noticed a couple good deals on Genz Benz 1200GBEs. I want "tubie Goodness" everyone is talking about...not a big fan of highs just want thumpy bass. Will the Genz Benz 1200GBE do this sound or should i stick to the streamliner. I like that the streamliner is light, but the 1200GBE will do the 2 ohm things..which is cool! Anybody compared these 2? thanks ed

IMO, the tube channel of the 1200 is much closer to the Shuttle than the Streamliner.... tighter, punchier, brighter, with less of that 'all tube' sort of feel and fatness.

Also, if you don't need 2ohm option, the Shuttle Max 9.2 will get you 90%+ of the way there at 7 pounds.... similar preamps and similar output at 4ohms .

IMO, if you like bright, clean and fast the GBE1200 is it, but if you want warm, fat and tubey, the 900 is the one. they're two completely different animals. IME, the 1200, while it's a nice amp, it doesn't really sound or feel like a tube amp at all.

I own both, and they are really nothing alike. The 1200 is incredibly quick and transparent, but is way more of a modern sound than the Streamliner. For thumpin' tubey goodness, 100% go with the Streamliner.

Thanks for all the good info...looks like i want a Streamliner.
The only other thing i might be thinking about is an Orange Tiny Terror 1000 watter. Anybody have any thoughts or comparisons to a Streamliners ?
