Genz Benz with Carvin Cabinet

Sign in to disble this ad
I would appreciate confirmation of the following.

I am considering purchasing the Genz Benz Shutle Max 9.2 and the Carvin BRX10.4NEO cabinet.

According to what I have researched, the Carvin cabinet (rated at 4 Ohms/1200 W) should be able to receive full power from the Genz Benz amp (4 ohms/ 900 W).

What I am not 100% sure of is the parallel configuration of the two speaker connections on the Genz Benz amp. This is where I can use some expert advice.

1) Am I correct in assuming that a single output from one of the parallel speaker connections on the Genz Benz amp will deliver the full 900 W to the Garvin cabinet?

2) Since the Genz Benz speaker connections are parallel and rated at 4 ohms, would I be able to connect an 8 ohm cabinet to the second connection while still using the Garvin 4 ohm cabinet on the first connection? If so, is there a practical reason for doing that?

Thank you in advance for your expert advice.

Yes, this is correct.

No, this is not possible or recommended. That would drop your connected load down to 2.67 ohms, the amp is not rated to drie this load.

And come out the other end of the experience still in one piece is another matter entirely. Caution is advised.

Id probably go with an 8 ohm cab, and you'll still be plenty loud with that head. Then if you need to get insanely loud, get another 8 ohm carvin cab and run 8x10s with 900 watts.

....

I believe the BRX10.4 comes in 4 ohms only. The BR410 comes in either 4 or 8 ohms, but it isn’t quite the cab as the BRX.
The BRX will get very loud before experiencing breakup (from my experience), but once you really start cranking a powerful head like that into any cab, caution is advised (like Craig said).
Cabs usually cry before they die. Most of the time it’s just a matter of dialing down the bass knob (at higher volumes levels) and boosting the mids for “cutting” through the mix. I’ve played some big clubs but never was in a situation where the BRX10.4 would not be enough cab.
