Genz Benz GBE600 Problem

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello, I plugged in my GBE600 amp today only to have it cut out on me after a few seconds. It gets a tiny amount of sound out of the speakers, but it isn't functioning more than that. It still turns on and the power light is green, however. I think it might just be the fuse, but I can't figure out how to get the fuse out. No manuals online have been any help. Any guidance would be appreciated!

Put a patch cable in the fx loop. In fact, run it in and out a few times, see if that helps. Get a can of De-Oxit and spray that in there too.

Unlikely any fuses, and do NOT replace any internal fuses as they are for protection of various power amp circuitry areas.

Try cycling the effects return jack a few times. If you live in the country, spiders like to make homes in the jacks and their silk is insulating and has cause more than a few problems with some customers (not just GB amps, but consoles too). There is a switch inside the returnm jack that returns the send signal through when the loop is not being used.

If you use DeOxit, use a tiny amount and in the return jack only.

After cycling the effects jack and blowing some air into the jack, I can get full power for a while before it clips and cuts out. What does this suggest? Will DeOxIt solve the problem?

Try just jumpering the send and return jacks with a short signal cable and see where that takes you.

Clips? What do you mean by this and what it your indication that this is happening?

Try jumpering the effects loop as Paul suggested and see if that resolves it. Then I will give you suggestions on a fix.

I've jumpered the cables and still have the same problem of it cutting out. It'll play for short amounts of time before it cuts and regains the signal. Would a good dusting help?

it sounds to me like your protection circuit is coming on.
it might help if you could tell us what cab (and impedance) you're running at, what type of speaker cable and at what level and what kind of bass you're using with it.

either way, since it's a genz benz, you're in good hands....

I've got a Fender Aerodyne bass with a gold Monster instrument cable running into a Peavey Black Widow 8 ohm speaker with a basic speaker cable I got at Guitar Center.

What do the output LED indicators show when the amp cuts out?

Have you double-checked that the power cable is fully seated in the IEC socket?

I've tried it with multiple cabinets and the problem is definitely in the amp. The EQ has been flat and my master volume at 2 or so. The power cable is also firmly in the socket.

I had a problem with mine too. Fortunately it was when I was in the store where I bought it and they gave me a new one.

Is is still under warranty?

The lights plural? There is only an O/L LED on the tube channel preamp.

By any chance are the TUBE/FET channel mode LED or MIX mode LED flashing?

Are you using a footswitch?

The Tube/FET and mix switches are the ones I was speaking of, and no I don't have a footswitch in use.

Ok, that narrows things down a whole lot.

Try running in the tube mode only (channel switch in and mix switch out) and see if the problem goes away.

I think I know what the problem is, but this will help narow down where. By any chance is the footswitch jack in the back damaged?
