Genz Benz Neox 212T but which amp?

Sign in to disble this ad
After some discussion on the TC section of the forum I have decided that I will get the GB Neox 212T as the start of my smaller and lighter setup, but which amp will best suit this?

I play all styles of music and prefer a clean punchy sound with good low definition for 4 & 5 string MM and Jazz basses.

My list so far is:-

Orange Terror Bass 500 or 1000
Little Mark III
GB Shuttle 600 or 900
TC Electronics RH450 or RH750

I may choose one of the higher powered ones so it will work with my existing SVT410HLF, but would appreciate any comments from anyone who has experience of these 4 brands. I like the idea of the built in tuner and comp in the TC for speedy setup (more like pack down) but there is certainly a premium to be paid. Is it worth it?

I've got the 212T and the Shuttle 6.0 and I think it's a great combination. Medford Bassman also has that set up - there are a few of us.

When I owned the 212T, I used a MarkBass F1. Can't get much punchier than that.

Hi Dave

Isn't the Streamliner a little more overdriven than the Shuttle?

Would the 600 drive the SVT as well (not at the same time obviously)

I think the Orange Terrorbass is much more overdriven than the Streamliner. The Streamliner threads report plenty of clean tones are available.

Sub'd. Contemplating roughly the same list of heads. Can I complicate your decision by adding that you can get the shuttle 6 in the combo with the stl12t cab right now on amazon for $669?!

That's like getting the 12t cab and the mounting sled free.

You can get a more overdrive tone out of the Streamliner, but it does a great "clean" tube tone also.

I found the perfect tone using a GK MB2-500 with mine. Knobs at noon, plug in and go. That said, the Shuttle 6.0 was also great. I didn't like the TC RH450 with it though. Then again, I don't like the RH450 with anything really...tc cabs included.

I love the slick UI on the TC's too. Brilliant bit of industrial design. I think it its way prettier than the shuttle. But what keeps me returning to the shuttle is the reputation it has, and that of Genz Benz in general. My current amp is a circa '93 Eden WT300. I love the sound of it, but it has never had enough power. It also let me down a few times. The company was great in responding to my issues at the time. I once received a call from none other than David Nordschow himself, but the company has changed hands, and he's since left.Anyhow, long story less long, I'm as concerned with the sound if my next amp as I am value for the money, reliability and the reputation if the mfr for service.

The presets and pretty interface is actually what made me come to dislike that head. I spent more time hitting the preset button than playing. Every little tweak and I'd have to save it. Whereas non-preset amps, I find a nice place, leave it alone, an occasional tweak and that's it. I guess I'm a non-preset type of guy. I had the Line 6 HD400 head and the same thing happened. I grew to hate the presets, and felt like not using them was just wrong.

*Love* my Streamliner 900 with my NEOX-212T. The articulation of the NEOX cab really shows off the depth and fullness of the Streamliner.

TC RH450 / GB NeoX212t rig is absolutely killer!!

Thick, Hefty, Punchy, Tight, Rich, Articulate..

I've been a GK user since time began.. 400RB / 800RB / 700RBII / 1001RBII / MB500 / MB Fusion
the TC450 kills them all!

I will say that although I probably won't own another GK, the MB2-500 sounded awesome with my GB NeoX 212T. That being said, I would still take my GBE600 over the GK. I will also say that one of the best head's I played through this cab was the Thunderfunk TFB 550. That was sweet. Still hoping to get one of those heads someday.

That's good for you, but I live in Rip Off Britain where we are expected to believe that it costs almost the same again to send stuff to the UK.

Seems like no-one really has any comments on the Little Mark then?

Shuttle 6.0 for me. I have used this setup at countless gigs. If you want clean powerful tones, IMO this is the setup. However, I think the 9.0 would work just as well.

It's pretty rare I don't get someone coming up to me at gigs asking me about my rig and how do I get those great sounds coming out of it. (It's definitely the amp and cab, not the player)

I am deeply sorry for overlooking that. Fwiw, the US$ retail is around $1400 for that combo. The stl12t extension cab goes for around $580 US. So the combo its a screaming deal. I'm just making it worse, aren't I? I truly don't mean too. I'll stop talking bout that.

For my part, I live in a backwards backwater deep in the south. of the 2 music stores in town, only one has any basses that aren't some chinese brand I've never heard of. The other store won't let anyone try anything unless they buy it first. For me it is either internet, or a 120 mile trip to atlanta.

If it helps at all, we have f***-all for beer here too.
