Genz Benz Shuttle 3.0-10T with 6-string bass?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm just wondering if anyone can let me know how this amp handles a 6-string (or 5-string) bass (specifically the low B string)?

I played a Shuttle 3.0-8T and found it really farted out pretty easily playing the low string an Ibanez 6-string (albeit with the bass EQ turned up on the bass).

I'm really interested in the 10T version, as the next step up (6.0-12T) is moving out of my price range (under $1000).

My tone is actually not very boomy, more mid-rangey (I like the articulation to come out clear), although I do want some bottom to be there. My bass is actually not an Ibanez, but I may pick one up in the future (my bass has EMG pickups).

I would need a combo to be able to play small gigs (bars/cafes)... with acoustic guitars/vocals and drums. On larger gigs, I do not mind having to bring a larger cab with the 3.0 head and/or use the direct out to a board.

Thanks for any help and real-world experiences anyone can provide!

I have the 3.0-10T and play a six-string bass through it, and it handles the low B fine for home / low volume rehearsal use. I can't help you with gig experience.

I will mention that you can pick up a new 6.0-12T for well under $1,000 if you shop around. Good luck!

As the above poster said, apparently you can now grab the 12T combo for $750.

Amazon.com selling Genz Benz STL6.0 12T dirt cheap

edit: actually I just tried adding to cart, and the price seems to be back to normal sorry

The 10T cabinet is tuned to really shine in the low mids IME. It can't reproduce lots of lows, a compromise that comes with its small size and portability.

I keep my bass flat and boost slightly around 150-300Hz, depending on whether I want more punch or grind. The bass this cabinet puts out at that level (i.e. 1 cab at 175 watts) is sufficient for small gigs in small venues, but in open air/larger rooms the cabinet struggles to really provide bass if you're used to larger cabs. I'm fine with this, but you might not be, so it'll be really good to try it out first.

You might want to add another 10T cab. I have one on order for my 3.0-10T to compete with a live drummer. It will increase output to 300w.

You really can't expect that small rig to be a big-gig amp, ya know? This is a great rig for practice and for supporting upright players...
