Genz Benz Shuttle 6 output query

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a GB Shuttle 6.0 and wondering about the output requirements. The output is rated at 375W at 8ohm and 600 at 4ohm. There are two Speakon outputs from the rear, that are in parallel. If I run one output from the amp to a 8ohm cab then I can expect a max output of about 375W (given the driver can handle it). If I have two outputs from the amp into two 8ohm cabs, does that mean I can now expect up to about 600W? If that is the case, do each of the 8ohm cabs need to be rated higher than 300 (ie 600)?

Yes, you will get 600 watts. Whether speakers can handle it depends on many factors. In theory, a speaker can handle huge amounts of power.... if the signal is totally clean. It's distortion that kills speakers, and your ears. Generally speaking, you should be fine with two 300 watt RMS 8 ohm cabs.

That is correct.. If you run two cabs.. each cab being 8 ohms and connected to each Shuttle 6 speaker out... your total load would be 4 ohms... thats where the amp will put out 600 watts total into that load... so each cab would get 300 watts a piece.
Use your ears to see if your cabs are being over driven or not.. usually if a cab is hit too hard it will make a flapping/ farting type noise...

Just for the record, you could have 2 cabs rated at 500 watts each with a total of 1000 watts and if you used alot of bass boost and slammed the amp.. you could still overdrive the cabs and cause damage..
on the other hand you could also run 2 cabs that can handle 200 watts each and do no damage.. It is all how you run the amp..
So listen to what the speakers are doing..
If you here something that sounds like its rattling or farting you may need to turn down or lessen the bass control boost..
