Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0 Appreciation Thread - Page 52

I started reading this thread with no real knowledge of Genz Benz. By page 4 I was moving Genz Benz up on my "to buy" list. By page 9 I decided on a 9.2. By page 12 I found a really good deal on a new ShuttleMax 9.2 and ordered it. It arrived by the time I got to page 20.

After playing it for a while my thought is "Why would anyone want anything else?"

Woke up in the middle of the night and could not sleep. Decided to get up and play my new amp. It seems very hard to turn this thing down low enough for middle of the night playing. Now I want a ShuttleMax 3.2 or a ShuttleMax P.2 (preamp). I guess I could use headphones but that seems so wrong with an amp of this much power.

By the way, does anyone know where I can get rubber feet. My pedal arrived with two feet missing on one end. Whenever I stomp the "Tube" switch the other end pops up like a seesaw. No glue residue there so I think they were left off. I just need something the correct thickness to put there to stabilize the pedal.

I already own this cabinet and just bought a GB STL-9, and I was worried about the pairing of them, and your positive post brings relief, but I'm wondering if you still feel the same about the two of them?
or am I shopping around for a new cab?
I played this pairing already in a store, but you can never really tell until you air it out on a gig. And I don't have a gig 'til next week.

I think you will find it to be a pretty good match. If you need "extreme" volume, you will probably achieve better results using some restraint regarding bass boost though, since the amp can deliver in excess of 900 watts into that load. It's more of a practical limitation of many single 4 ohm 410 cabinets.

I crank my Shuttle 9.0 into two 1x12 cabs at a 4 ohm load all the time with the bass boost engaged.

I started my upgrade adventure with a Shuttle 9.0 after playing a 6.0 at bass emporium. Sounded amazing. Then I purchased an Epifani NYC 4x10 and it sounded more amazing. Last month I purchased a Lakland 55-02 and now it sounds INCREDIBLE! All of my band mates have been blown away with the GB head. I am a Genz Benz fan for life!!

I bought a Shuttle 9.0 because it was for sale local, small and light. I can't imagine ever needing anyother head. Ever. It does everything. Just wanted to chime in.

The fan should be field replaceable. I have had mine open to fix a loose connection. If you contact GB they might sell (or give) you a new fan. I'm sure it is a 2 pin connection to a PCB. It's most likely held to the frame by several small screws. I know I've replaced 1oo's of fans on computers and electronic equipment. Might even be able to buy it off the shelf from Newegg. just make sure the connector, voltage and cable length are the same. Should be a p/n on the fan itself. Here is a link to the fans.

Fan is available as a service part. Because of the variable speed controller, only use a factory stock fan, the design depends on a specific CFM/noise versus current curve.

First check that there is no debris built up on the fan blades or rubbing on the fan hub. This is more common than a bad fan.

Thanks for replying, the SWR Goliath III 4x10 that I own is an 8 Ohm cabinet, so the Shuttle 9.0 @ 8ohms is 500W according to the specs. The SWR Goliath III has a power handling of 700WRMS, so no worries in that department. I've played a bunch of gigs with this system now, and I think I'm ready to step up to another cabinet. These days I'm playing a 2000 Warwick FNA 5 String, single humbucker, SD basslines preamp onboard. The Amp is great, nothing but praise. the cabinet which I've owned now for several years, is good, but I think my sound can improve. I'm looking at Bergantino, the new CN-212 is very attractive with the light weight (46llbs), but I'm not crazy about what I've been reading about them when you a/b them with a Ceramic Speaker of the same caliber (HD212). I'm Playing rock n roll covers for the most part, and then jazz and fusion in another group part time, and they don't gig out. Which gets me thinking about two(2) single 12" - 8Ohm cabs, again I'm looking at Bergantino, either the CN112 or the HD112, I could stack 'em for a 900W@4ohm load for the rock band, and just one of them for the jazz trio 500W@8Ohms. The question is, will the singles provide as much low end as a 2-12 cab? And do the Neo Cabs really lack the "donkey punch" that ceramics provide, or am I reading too many threads? I will be going to the store to try these out on my own very soon, but in store demos never turn out to be even close to gig scenario, so I just wanted to see if I could get some feedback from some Genz-Benz Shuttle 9.0 players who have been down this road before me.
