Genz Benz shuttle cab tweeter level issue

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently bought a Genz Benz shuttle 6.0-12T combo from Zzounds.com and I noticed that when I set the tweeter level at the back of the cab to whatever level, the high end response remains the same. I use a Lakland 55-02 deluxe but can't get a nice crisp slap tone. I think that the tweeter level might be stuck in a very low setting. Anybody experience this?

I asked Jeff Genzler about it and he says it's kind of an odd occurence and they may take a look if I want. I do not want to spend money on shipping this though. I also contacted Zzounds about it and might send it back for a new one but I'm just curious if anybody else encountered this problem.
I've read that this combo can get the hi-fi slap tone but I can't seem to get that even when I use the filter controls and controls on my bass.

A couple of things to try...

What are you using for a bass, strings, pickup and have you verified that the tone controls on your bass are working properly? I recently saw a bass that had similar symptoms to what you describe and it turned out to be a broken connection in the tone control circuit inside the bass. There was not enough high end coming out of the bass to make the tweeter noticeable.

Try the amp with another bass and see how the tweeter works and if the level control works more like you expect.

Jeff Genzler said that the tweeter might not be working so I connected a drum machine thru the aux input and turned the level control from completely off to full on and everything in between. The tone didn't change at all. With other cabs, the drum machine would sound muffled when a cab's tweeter was turned completely off so I think he's right about the tweeter being defective.

I tried 2 basses with it with the same results, no change in high end. I made sure everything is properly connected. It sounds great thru headphones though.

Work out with Jeff getting the cabinet fixed. That's an unusual problem but there's always the possibility of a defective part. That's why a warranty is important, to protect you from when it does happen.
