I love a story with a happy ending, and I'm not surprised at the results - the Genz-Benz peeps set the bar for customer service...

Received yesterday, repaired and on the way back to Kerry today.

The failure was caused by some form of grounding fault external to the amp allowing fault current (exceeding the DI line driver's common mode voltage rating) to return to ground through the DI's pin 1. The DI is completely phantom power protected so a serious fault through ground is the only way that this can happen. The amp modules protected themselves (as designed) from this damage and were reset once the line driver was replaced.

This is a good time to present a general reminder to all of you that power faults are one of the most common causes of failure for amps by every manufacturer. If you have suspicion that the power is "hinky", or that there may not be proper grounding (earthing for our friends on the other side of the pond) on the recepticle, it pays to follow up by testing the power or choose a better source rather than just "run and gun" with bad power. These are not generally the kinds of faults that a powwr conditioner can improve, and often the power conditioner can be either the source of the problem, or a contributing factor (as I have mentioned many times before). While our amps are pretty well protected, no amp is perfect and many amps have little to no protection at all for these kinds of situations.

Tried the amp yesterday pushing my Aguilar GS412 and it sounds great.
I sold my Streamliner 900 and Neo 212 right after the SM passed the test.
Thanks again Genz Benz and agedhorse.

I'll have our operations folks do a ground test at our building but so far nothing else connected to our board or any outlet in our building has been affected including microphones, wireless microphones, lavalier microphones, monitors, video equipment, cameras, keyboards, guitar amps, powered monitors ,stage lighting, big screen televisions.

To your point agedhorse, my amp was the only unit connected to my power conditioner and the DI.

Since I come from the touring pro audio world, I may see a wider variety of problems than most folks do. That's why I am more thorough in my analysis of the possible causes of failures. Since I have designed my fair share of pro audio products, I am familiar with this particular issue since it can also cause very costly damage to a console.

Thanks again, we're trouble shooting our facility.

agedhorse,

thanks again ,my 12.0 is pushing a Aguilar GS412 and I love it!

Now I'm looking for a 9.0.

Question, is there any benefit to alternating between the two power amps if you are only using one cab?

Nope, no benefit.
