Genz Benz Shuttle Safe Impedance ?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello. I own a Genz Benz 6.0 shuttle head that I play thru a 4 ohm 2/10 cab. If I add an addtional 8ohm (2/10)cab, will I likely damage the head with load below 4 ohms? I can not determine the minimum safe imperdance for this head. Any help will be appreciated.

It's rated 4 ohms min. I'm sure one of the guys from GB will comment soon. Can the 4 ohm cab be rewired to 8 ohms? Comment back, I'm sure someone here can walk through a rewire if needed.

The 4 ohm cab can be rewired to 16 ohm, not 8. If you then add an 8 ohm cab, you'd have approximately 5,3 ohm, which would be harmless to your amp.

If the cabs have mismatched impedances (one is 8 and the other 16), then the 8-ohm cab will get twice the power of the 16-ohm one. This will cause the 8 to reach its upper power and mechanical limits long before the 16-ohm one does. Chances are it will be so much louder that the 16 won't bring much to the party.

Sell the 4-ohm cab and get two 8-ohm ones.

Forgot about that part, thanks.

Shuttles are 4 ohm minimum load. An 8 and 4 ohm together (in parallel) is a no go. In series, it's not going to be an improvement over your 4 ohm by itself IMO.

Short answer: in the world of ohms, 8 + 4 = less than 4.

This will help you determine the "imperdance" (sic).
