A few fellow Talk Bass friends have recommended me the Genz Benz Shuttle series. Any reviews on these? Hows the D.I?
I really like a low, deep, but very mid driven bass sound. I like to feel the notes that I play. I'm currently playing with ALL SWR equipment, and I love it, but the amps giving me a few problems. Overall, I love the SWR sound.
Is there a HUGE difference between the Genz Benz and SWR? I'm just trying to buy a good, reliable, and hopefully my LAST bass amp.
Also, would you consider switching from SWR to Genz Benz "downgrading?" Never heard much of Genz Benz..

If you search Genz-Benz you will find a lot as well. Use headphones if you don't have good speakers. I think you will find something you like. |

My shuttle 9 is my main amp now.
It is heading to europe with me next week just in case,,,
It is LOUD, I usually use a pair of 112cabs on local gigs or one to two 810s on larger gigs.. If i use a pair i use the shuttle MAX 12.
The shuttle 9 kills on an 810 cab.
The DI out is as good as the industry standard Countryman type 85 FET DI which i use to carry with me all the time. .Not anymore.
And i have run my shuttles to their min load of 4 ohms loudly on outdoor gigs in TExas Summer heat where the cooling air being sucked in was over 105 degrees and the amps always keep going..
In fact Hasbeen ( Genz Benz person) has stated that he will eat any amp that thermals.. I tried to thermal mine. It just cant happen. but it would interesting to see someone eat an amp.. Just messing with ya Hasbeen if you read this.
Its reliable, Loud, great tone, lightweight, fits in my gig bag.. and it sound good in many different speaker cabs types...
Great dependable workhorse that keeps going and going...
I think you get the picture that Im trying to paint.. I love mine

Does that mean 600 watts if I only run one channel?

Also, no....it is not a tube D.I.
There's a plethora of info on our site....including our owner's manuals.......may be of help: www.genzbenz.com
Thanks for your interest.

That being said they stand nowhere near the clarity and power of my SWR redhead, and I would consider going from SWR to one of the shuttle 3.0s a downgrade. To me they sound loud and without bottom not a desirable sound in my opinion.
However I have no experience with the line above the 3.0. If I'm not mistaken all models above it have tube preamps and larger/better speakers. So I would listen to other people if I were interested in the 6.0, 9.0, or 12.0.
I personally would stick with SWR, but I do like to be proven wrong once in awhile. |

I believe that was me The SWR 750x is not really representative of what many call the 'SWR' tone (like the 400/500/900 series amps). Genz voicing has little to do with that super wide, super deep, polite mid, hi fi top end of that series of amps. However, the tighter, grindier voicing (IMO) of the 'x' series amps lines up pretty well with the Genz Voicing.
For your 4ohm Megaliath (Megoliath?), and your high volume needs, the only Genz amps that would be appropriate for your needs is either the Genz1200 (larger, heavier than your 750x) or the Shuttle 9, which puts out its full power into a 4ohm cab. That's the one I recommend.
You would not want either of the Max heads for your situation. The 12 will only put out a fraction of its power with your Megaliath set to '2 x 8ohm' dual mode operation (i.e., each side would be running at the 375 watt or so 8ohm power), and the Shuttle 6 or Shuttle Max 6 would not give you the wump you are looking for.
The 9 is the way to go, and should greatly outperform the 750x is virtually every way with your cab IMO. The fact that its only about 5 pounds is just a massive bonus.

In that I'd venture to say: Great, far more reliable, and has a fantastically better chance of being your last bass amp, especially if you go with the shuttle line, as you won't ever be saying "Man! I gotta carry this &$*^@# @^**^ amp up the #*^ stairs again. *^@(.!" :) Quote: |

| No. Upgrading.
I've played an SM-900 for years. It's been in the shop a few times, and it's about to find itself a new home. My buddy's got a ShuttleMAX 6.0 (who is an effervescently happy SWR->Genz convert), and it's on the tippy top of the Seriously Short List(tm). Quote: |

| Genz-Benz is local, so we see it a lot between guitarists and bassists alike. Only heard positive things about Jeff, the company, and the product. Even their guitar rigs punch. Very impressed.

I had a Shuttle 6.0 (Traded it for the GBE) I intend to get two of the NeoX 212's ASAP to make use of everything that the ShuttleMax 12.0. In short, GB has made me a customer for life with superior products, support and SOUND... and lack of weight (Particularly important given the pulled SI ligaments in my back.)
