Genz Benz speakon cable

Sign in to disble this ad
I want to get a speakon cable for an extension cab for my Genz Benz 6.0. Looking on the internet, I see 4 & 6 pin cables etc. What is the difference ( I know - 2 pins) in the two cables and which one would I need for the Genz Benz? Do all speaker cabs come with the same pin numbers? I don't want a long cable - maby 3ft. Where is the best place to get that?

All you need is a 2-conductor unless you are running a bridged stand alone power amp - like a Crown - or a biamped setup. Is your Genz running a single 4-conductor biamped output into either a biamped cab or into two separate cabs? If not, all you need is the 2-conductor cable & connectors.

As far as the best place to buy - how about Musicians Friend, Zzounds, Sweetwater, Music 123, etc.? I just buy the connectors online, go to WalMart and buy some hi-wattage (12-gauge) speaker cable from the car stereo department and make my own.

Most equipment is supplied with four pole speakons even though only two poles are used. Either a two pole plug OR a four pole plug will connect with a four pole socket, the reverse does not. Wire them +1 > +1 and -1 > -1. For bridge operation generally you wire +1 > +1 and +2 > -1. The two plusses to the amp end, it won't work the other way around. However some amps have a specific socket for bridge and they accept the standard wired cable.

Looking on the specs for the Shuttle 6.0 it says Neutrik Speak-on connectors wired 1+/1-. Does that mean it is a 2 pin? I am going to get an Avatar SB112 for a stand alone cab for small jobs.

Get the Neutrik NL-4 Speakon connector. You'll only use two conductors but the NL-4 is easier to work with and has an better locking mechanism IMHO.

You can use either a 4 pin NL-4 with all 4 conductors wired, a 4 pin NL-4 with only 2 conductors wired 1+/1- to 1+/1- or a 2 pin NL-2 with the 2 conductors wired 1+/1= to 1+/1- (the only option).

Go into your pro audio shop, ask the guy for an NL-4 to NL-4 cable, 2 conductor wired 1+/1- to 1+/1- at both ends and you are guaranteed to get the right cable. Most pro audio guys don't mess with the NL-2 connector. It's industry standard for the bass market and the pro audio market, but usually the pro audio guys know the details better.

If you still have problems, PM me and I'll help you sort this out.
