Who has one, had one or has played through one? What is its sound compared to say, the XB3 or an Ampeg fridge? Info seems to be pretty scarce. Looking to replace the PR410HLF and this cabinet keeps floating up to the top of my list (along with the NV610).

Thanks!

I had one for a year. I sold it and bought 2 410-XB3 cabs. I prefer old school, nuff said.

Is it a Hugh difference between the UB and XB3?

I didn't know there was an 810 in the Uber line. It probably kills, but I'm not sure anyone here has one. $1600 is a lotta shekels.

I think there are at least two here with a UB810 but I know only TD that uses a XB3 cabinet...

Yeah... they seem to be pretty scarce. I think I've found a place in Baltimore that has one to try out (need to give them a call). Would love the versatility of 2x410, but that's even more dough than the 810... and at 120lbs it is still lighter than my current cab.

Here's what I can tell you from having played one ONCE and having 2 UB-410's.

The sound is very modern and aggressive. Very much like the Bergantino HS-series, but without being quite as tight in the low end or having as much midrange informations.

The UB-810 is absurdly loud. It sounds exactly like two UB-410's... which is insanely cutting and beefy. NOTHING at all like the ampeg fridge. In a good way.

Hope this helps.

Is this the UB?
Is the XB3 more Ampegish?

Thanks for the info... the UB810's 105dB sensitivity is probably the highest I've seen (compared to the UB410s and Bergs at 103dB), so I had little doubt that the top end volume could go relentlessly past the threshold of pain.

Haven't been able to play through a Berg HS- yet, but I have played through an AE410... which I wouldn't characterize as a particularly "aggressive" sounding cabinet, even if it was a little slice of heaven.

Out of curiosity, have you played through an NV610? If so, how would you compare the two?

TD, it seems that you are that only one on the whole TalkBass that have used both tha UBER and XB3s. Would you care for a comparison soundwise?
I am soon about to buy a GB 8x10 but there's no GB cabinets to try in the whole of Sweden (except some small combos) so I have to buy unheard...

I'll give you my two cents worth here. I owned a UB-810 for one year and sold it. I replaced it with two 410-XB3 cabs (4 ohm each) two years ago.

I did this for a couple of reasons, first and mainly size and portability. I was using my GBE1200 to drive the UB-810 but both were heavy and the cabinet required two people to load and unload it. One person can not handle the 810 by itself unless there are ramps and elevators.

When my son moved out of the house to attend university I lost my helper, so in order to maintain 810's I switched from the UB-810 to the two 410-XB3's. At the sametime I sold my GBE1200 and replaced it with a new ShuttleMAX 12.0 which is perfect match for my two 4 ohm XB3 cabs.

Now I have the portability and flexibility in a rig that I need.

The reason I chose NOT to replace the UB-810 with two UB-410 cabs was G-B had introduced the XB3 Series six mths after I had bought my UB-810. Had the XB3 Series been available when I was buying my UB-810, I would have bought the XB3's instead. Plus a small added benefit was that the XB3 Series ships from the factory equipped with casters, something that the UB-410 didn't.

Now having said all of that, from a tone perspective here's what I found in a nutshell. If you're looking for a modern high fi sounding cabinet and play a lot of slap bass and want a great midrange extension then the UB series is for you IMO. If you're old school and are looking for more of a solid bottom end with excellent bass extension then the XB3 series is for you IMO. I'm really surprised that the XB3 series hasn't received the attention it deserves here on TB. May be this will help change that.

I'm old school. I play 99% of the time with my fingers. I don't slap and the remaining 1% of the time I'll use a pick. So you can see why the XB3 Series appeals to me.

So all I can say is that you'll have to extract what you can from this and make your own decision.

TD

Thank you so much TD for your answer! This was exactly what I wanted to hear!:-)
I play mostly rock/metal with a pick and a overdriven sound. When I play other styles (soul/pop/jazz) I have my NEOX112s
I am looking for a little bit more modern Ampeg-style without the mud. I really hope this is it

Thanks TD

Awesome info TD, thanks for the review... out of curiosity, is the XB3 covered in rat fur? It is hard to tell from the pictures.
