My only cab is an Orange OBC115, fed by a Fender TB-600. I love the tone, but it doesn't seem to cut enough when playing within a group setting. Originally, I thought I would just get a second one and my volume problems would be soved. However...
I was in Best Buy the other night, and they had a newer Peavey high-wattage combo. I plugged a Jazz bass in, thought "meh," then noticed it had a tweeter on/off. I turned the tweeter on, and all of a sudden, this amp sounded 100% better. It got me thinking, "am I selling myself short by not having a horn on my cab?"
Which brings me to the 4x10 option. I had an Aguilar S410, and it was slamming, but I sold it here a few years ago. I'm looking long at a 4 ohm DB410, which would give me a tweeter and draw the full juice out of my amp, which combined with four drivers would probably solve any volume problems.
I don't care about modularity, because a single Orange 15 is a pretty hefty box by itself. What I'm wondering is, would a pair of OBC115s sound a lot better than a single? For those who have played both, what would I gain/lose by switching to the 4x10 vs. a stack of OBC115s?

That is another consideration for me, it would probably cost me less out-of-pocket to get a 410 and sell my 15.

| | | | I've got two Bergantino HT115s.
When run singly, it sounds great. No problems
But when you stack two, there's a synergy that's hard to put in to words. Even at low volumes the sound just envelopes you. It becomes a physical experience as well as an aural one.
Plus you'll get better dispersion |

Check out Mesa's 115 too. One of them is almost identical to the Orange in size and tuning and build style. Both are based on the EV TL606 enclosure plan.
I don't recall if there is room on the baffle to put a tweet though. |

We always like MORE. And well, OK, coupling actually shapes the tone too of course, since it occurs more in the lower frequencies than the higher ones, and suits bass guitar especially. |
