I'm looking for a relatively high-watt combo (at least 200+) to play with the band at gigs (small to medium venues) and would like to approximate the sound I can get with my B-15N at home in the studio. I know it won't be exactly the same and maybe I even need a touch more high end for cutting purposes (or maybe I don't).
I play a Fender P with a J bass pickup added.
Anyway, what do you recommend?
Thanks,
RS |

Edit: It does not like the low B at loud levels.

I have both on my pedal board.

I went to Bass pro shop and to my surprise they didn't have a single bass guitar.

| | | | Ampeg PF500 with a PF115 cab might get in the ballpark.
Well a lot closer than an amp sim pedal anyway...
I use amp sims sometimes, but if you can get close without them...
IMO of course :P

RS | I'd go with an Ampeg PF 350 you'll be glad you did. |

I find that if I run the VT bass gain at 3:00 it gives a nice clean tube sound. I can't get a good tube drive sound out of it, but that is where the Pork Loin comes in. The MB212 on its own is a little boxy sounding, but the VTbass transforms it completely.
The MB212 excels at being Light (37lbs) and loud (2X12 with 500 watts). I find it definitely needs the pedals to sound good. |

its a great and unexpensive rig and you can dial in the b15 sound and more. and it still sounds very natural

I would expect a B200R would be noticeably louder, but as I say, it's bizarre how big the B100R sounds.
Otherwise, I'd also say just get a VT pedal and use any decent amp(preferably with a 15"). I never took my REDDI to gigs--too easy to get it beat up and I think live the nuance isn't all that critical. |

Get any amp , put a HPF to 100hz , a high shelf of -12db @ 5Khz
and put a box of loose screws on the amp to complete the emulation of that "vintage sound".

Thanks for all the interesting suggestions. I'm interested in any others you might have.

But the joke is that when I compare my '69 B15 to what I actually use , it really sounds like that
