Getting spoiled / New rig day

Sign in to disble this ad
So for a while, I was operating pretty light heads. My peavey alpha bass head was about 35lbs, and then I got a Shuttle 6.0, which I didn't like, but weight ~4 lbs. I got a sweet deal on a peavey firebass 700 and 4x12 cab ($350 total). I brought that baby home and made a 6x12 stack with my 2x12 frankencab. I went put the firebass up on top of the two cabs, and dang that thing is heavy (~ 50Lbs). The good news is that the thing sounds awesome, and will sound better once I can decide on whether to get a VT Bass or Tech 21 Oxford character series (both?). My EB3 copy is dangerous. Standing directly in front of it makes my stomach churn, in the best way possible. Pics will come tomorrow..

That would be all well and good, jimmy, until I turned it on and played an open e. She would end up in the next county...

also I can fit everything (plus a passenger and more) in my prius!

the firebass 700 is the "anti" this is why I love SS head. It's heavy as hell, but worth every pound in tone and power. 700w coming out of 6 12's is a force to be reckoned with, even if the whole rig weighs almost 200 lbs...

There is something about amps with real transformers in them that those digital amps can not deliver. Sure, the diggies are loud somehow, but that extra portion of heavy iron in a conventional amp contrubutes to a more fundamental sound.

here's the evidence. It's pretty messy in my basement, but that thing was not going up a flight of stairs just for a picture or two outside

That Alphabass is a breath of fresh air for me. My 75 lb SVT-II is like putting my girlfriend on top of my 810 every time we move somewhere. The tone is worth it, but just barely. My VT-Bass does a whole lot of the tone shaping so the big rig might get taken down...

By the way, blender, I think you still have a pending feedback for that or something? I keep seeing the unconfirmed PM receipt message in my inbox.

Just left you feedback..sorry it took so long.

I'm glad you like the alphabass. I think, optimally, I will keep the 412 and get a bass terror and be done with it, although that will be a while. that will be like setting a beer ontop of a cab...

No worries! It's nice to be able to carry my amp over 100 feet without discomfort.

But, in an effort to top you, when I move to my new apartment in a month or so, I'll put my two rigs together and run a stereo setup.

SVT-II -> 810 clean
Alphabass -> GB 610 dirty

I won't be able to hear ever again.
