Giving my cab a haircut

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently picked up a nice Hartke 4.5XL cabinet that has seen a lot of wear and tear. The rat-fur carpeting is pretty beat up in spots and it had lived with a long-haired cat for a while - but otherwise this cab is a real survivor. In order to give my wife one less thing to gripe about, I decided to clean up the carpeting a bit and make it more presentable before I dragged it home.

Before:

I went to the local fabric store and bought a lint shaver for $10, trimmed off the large strands of carpeting with some sharp scissors and went to town with the shaver. With a fresh set of batteries and about 15 minutes of work it cleaned up quite a bit!

A touch of flat-black paint on the minor wear-through spots and this cab went from a hippie to a nice-looking piece that my wife won't complain about being in the house.

Indeed.

Love that jack plate, they should all be like that. Much easier on cables.

I recently did something really similar as i have 2 cats that arent declawed and they like to use it as a post. but since i shaved over the ragged spots they just magically left it alone....like i took over there territory or something. wish that worked for the couch. =(

I can't stop staring at the cars in the background! What a great looking shop.

you can also use electric clippers, like the ones used to cut hair..

I do this every so often to remove all the snags and ugly stuff..

works WONDERFUL !

Good for another 100k miles! Also I've used the brush portion of a car ice scraper to get pet hair off.
