GK 1001 RB Volume Choices

I just read a thread about where you get volume from in your rig. As in, be it from the pedal, the amp, the pre and or maybe even from your bass, where do you control your "master" volume from? Now I'd like to get mostly opinions from GK 1001/700 RB users who are using pedals or rackmounts as preamps. If this criteria doesnt fit you, then maybe apply it to your given gear/rig and give your opinion as well. I get my master volume from the volume knob on the preamp on my 1001RB with desirable results. I have the wooer and boost around 5 or 6 oclock. My volume knob never usually goes past 9 oclock. If it even gets up that high, my rig is shaking the earth But since Ive gotten a different preamp (B7K by darkglass), my volume seems to want to come from the level on that pedal now. But considering the fact I of how I set the rest of the knobs on the B7K, I suppose that it doesnt becasue if I send too much of a hot signal to my amp, the clip light starts going on too much and I have to back it down on the pedal more. Which isnt a bad thing at all. Either way, I am wondering how y'all are acheiving your volume needs. Especially when there is so much more going on in your rig than just a bass and an amp. Hopefully this makes some sense to most. I am trying to look for more suggestions on how to acheive different tones through volume tweaking, hence the post. And considering I have a lot of options as far as my head, pedals and bass (ATK 300 Ibanez) go, I thought I'd throw it out to all of you to see how you do it. Thanks!

I've been getting it through my head as well, a GK 700-RBII. My master/woofer is fully on, and the volume knob only about 10 o'clock usually. I'm also using the DI on the head for PA support, but I can definitely turn up before my rig starts complaining.

I think it's always good to have your bass on full. Keep the EQ (if it has one) flat and adjust to the situation. The SansAmp in my signal chain is kept somewhat low, I want the input to have plenty of headroom for clarity. As in, I try to keep the level about the same as what it would be were the SansAmp not in there.

I use the woofer of my 700RB as the 'main' volume control. I dial in the flavour of sound that I want from the input and boost and adjust it accordingly. Has worked well so far.

Depends on bass for me. One is much quieter, so itsvolume is full on. The others are about 3/4 volume, in case I need a bit more volume in a pinch. Could do it with onboard EQ, but 1 knob is easier than 3!

I used to send a hot signal with my VT Bass to my GK 700RB II. I have my boost at 3, my woofer around 1, and volume as needed. I sold the VT, and now I'm goona go a similar route where I crank up the woofer/boost and control with volume. I'm getting a Darkglass Vintage Microtubes to add a bit of vintage tube breakup/warmth. I have a feeling it will pair extremely well with GK rigs.

Darkglass does pair very with the my GK head. I had the vintage but returned for the B7K. Awesome sauce. I want the vintage back now though due to what the B7K can do for my tone/sound. Didn't your clip light come on all the time if you cranked the volume on the VT?? I'll have to try a little experiment when I get home today with volume levels. I just think running the woofer and boost really high and controlling my main volume with the preamp volume knob, it sounds best. Just my opinion though.

I also have the Gk 1001rb II w/ Fender Jazz deluxe. Volume set to 1 oclock, boost 12 oclock & woofer @ 3oclock. So far its a nice fat tone with lots of punch! My drummer is constantly asking me why I can't keep my hands off of it? I am constantly tweeking till I find my sweet spot, who knows I may never but it sounds pretty damn good so far.

Holy hell!! That seems like it would be super loud. If I ran my volume, boost and woofer at those levels I'd probably blow my cab. I use a single neo 410. What are you pushin?

I didn't crank the VT Bass all the way, just so that it doesn't turn the clip light on, but it was noticeably hotter signal than what my passive bass sends (Squier CV Jazz).
I'm pushing a GK Neo 412 cab, and I think a bit of vintage microtubes warmth will pair really well with this combination, that is, if you're into vintage tones.

I had good luck using these settings:
Volume around 10 o'clock
boost between 10/11
Master/woofer around 11......and few times at noon and it was sick
Bass volume at about 60%
