GK 1001RB II 212 NEO combo blown speaker - Replace or return?
The bottom speaker is blown, and a new one is $179.99 from GK. I can't decide if I should replace the speaker, or just return the combo from where I got it.
I identified the blown speaker after lots of noise troubleshooting by finally connecting only 1 speaker at a time to the head. The bottom speaker had a loud paper buzzing sound. The top speaker was fine. Hard to identify the source of the buzzing when both speakers were on and loud. I also tested it with a separate GK micro head as well. Using the speakers solo made the issue obvious.
I've had the combo 2 days. The out of state place I got it from wasn't very willing to fix it because I didn't buy the "Pro Coverage". It clearly arrived to me with a bad speaker and that was explained to them. They said I could take it to my local store and they may be able to fix it. I certainly wouldn't want them just slapping in some non-matching speaker though. I'm sure they couldn't justify the price of the GK replacement NEO speaker with what they sold the amp for.
It would be an awesome combo amp when fixed, but should I worry about the 2nd speaker blowing if I fix the 1st? Should I fix the issue, or return it and make it their issue to fix?
The build quality of the cabinet is awesome, the tilt-back with luggage handle is cool, and the 1001RB II head sounds great. I'm even thinking about maybe just buying two 8 ohm non-NEO speakers to replace both to make it a 4 ohm monster combo. Seems like such a great combo with multi-use potential.
