GK 1001RB-II Hum/Repair Issues

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all,

I'm experiencing an intense hum/buzzing at any volume coming from my GK 1001RB-II head, with any cabinet I plug it into. The severity of the distortion only increases with volume. Now, this only started after I received the unit back from Bill's Music Repair Shop.

For whatever reason when I got it one of the outputs was missing, so I got a new one reinstalled and got the rest of the head looked at/cleaned up.

Now, I feel stupid for only taking action this late (I got the head back over a month ago) but I have been playing other amps for other bands and only now realized that this isn't a "natural" hum. Is there anything I can do myself to fix the head, or will I have to bring it back to a repair shop? What could have happened to my head for it to react like this? The shop said they had cleaned the pots, but they actually sound scratchier than usual. Needless to say, i'm going to be bringing it to a different shop if necessary.

If it were me I would send it back to GK and tell them to fix it properly then send me the bill and I'd gladly pay the fee. These homegrown techs wont find the problem like the manufacturer will. They may even cut you a break on the bill. Call them and inquire. You man be pleasntly surprised. Customer service is not dead over at GK.
