Hi,
I am in the market for a new amp. I am curious to know if the GK 1001RB-II can be used with one GK Neo 2x12II. I am thinking of getting this head with two Neo 2x12's but would also like to use it with only one of the cabs for smaller situations. Any advice by anyone who has this gear or opinions appreciiated.
Thanks! |

One 212 cab will take you very far, add another and you'd probably have as much headroom as you'd ever need. If you needed more you'd be running through the PA.
I have to ask, seeing as your location is NYC... what venue size are you playing. NYC venues really don't need that much firepower as a rule. |

All these amps and decisions. I like the idea of the two 2x12 cabs but also read that one seems a little weak?
I also like the Ampeg Neo 410 which has like 800w and it is a light cab too so I wonder if that one cab and the GK 1001rb ii would be good for me as well. |

Very loud. The GK Neo 212 cab is also very capable of putting out a lot of volume. Honestly, for a rehearsal space thru medium sized gigs it's a lot of firepower. Add a second cab and you're done.
All that said, there's a difference in sound between the 212 cab and 410 cab. Each is up to the task volume wise, just different cabs. For hard driving rock type stuff you might be better served with a 410 cab.
And I still have to ask... I play NYC. The rig you're thinking about is way more firepower than is required for the vast majority of venues. If you've got gigs lined up at the larger clubs outside the City, or a couple of outdoor festivals, that's one thing. But the bar/club scene doesn't need this much.
Your cash... just my $.02. |

Thanks! | Juist be sure and get the 8Ω version, so's you can add another later on.
Kill me if I'm wrong, but the GK1001 can only go down to 4Ω. |

To change subject a little - think the RB 700ii would be good with that new Ampeg 410 Neo? The Ampeg Neo sounded real good in a youtube video I saw, it is very light, but it is $1000.
Slowgypsy - what band are you in? Maybe I can check out one of your gigs \m/ |

We're the only act, 9-10:30pm. That venue I'll use a GK RB 700II into 2 GK Neo 112 cabs. PM me with your email and I'll send you a flyer when it comes off the press. |

I had the GK1001RBII head for a while paired with older GK cabs that did not have the Biamping ability. While that sounded great, with the Neo2x12II its awesome. Make sure you read you manual and use the GK specific Speakon cable.
Having the second cab is really not necessary unless you play an outdoor gig or a 500 plus venue. I have had to crank my amp a few times, but I never felt I needed the second cab.

I have the 1001/212 combo - I either have to keep it in second gear or get another cabinet. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
