I've been wondering about starting up a rack and wondering if those handles on the rack ears ever get in the way when putting the lid on a rack case?

Not IME and I have put a 1001RB-II in a couple of cases including a Gator.
Most of the lids allow a good 2-3" of additional space.

Not sure the exact number, but it is on the heavy side. That's the one I have.
I used to have a lightweight power strip, the korg tuner and the GK-1001RBII in there. It is not the lightest of things.
Gator or SKB are lighter. |

Also, I'd definitely recommend SKB over Gator - no contest, IMO...

They really look good for a start. Also, If I ever came to selling it, I'd never remember where I put the damn things. =P I've had a look at the SKB cases and they seem like they know what they are doing. Seems to be for the 4u cases that it's either cheap and small or expensive with the whole shabang. Looks like I'll be going with one of the £100-130 models until I start having £500 spare for a fully protected case!

On the 2U case, I had to turn them inward for the lid to fit - but didn't have to on the 4U case...

A question to those who have the GK1001rb-II; the vent is on top and I've heard the amp needs at least one rackspace vacant above. I see a lot of you who don't do this. Does it work? I've sent Brian Clark of GK an e-mail and currently waiting for his reply.

The 700RB-II I was able to rack with the handles turned inward, the 2001RB's rack handles needed to be removed so that everything would fit. It really depends on the case that you have. I would also suggest giving the amp the required room to vent, however I used to have a rack drawer above mine that was shallow enough to not block the vent. I'd also assume that any wireless unit or tuner would also be shallow enough to not impede ventilation of the unit. However, I always had mine turned to vent away from the wall. Not as cool looking (nobody who knows bass amps gets to see your cool amp), but it beats a melted rack, or worse yet, a melted amp. |

The only problem I had was I wasn't able to put the head in the rack with the rubber feed on, but that's only because it was 2u, other than that, no worries. |

I have a pair of 700rb-IIs, which use the same chassis box and venting system - one is in a 2U rack, the other in a 4U rack with a Korg DTR-2000 tuner directly above it... The tuner is shallow enough so that it covers less than 1/3 for the fan area, and the 2U has about 3/4" clearance... I've gigged both in 95+ temps without ever having a problem with either...
Hope this helps,
