GK 1001rb Loud Pop on power down

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys,
A little mystified here. Just got a GK 1001rb-II.....like yesterday.

Emits a loud pop on power down. Did some research and found this stating that its a defect in the amp. However, this is a memo for the standard 1001rb, not the II as I have. I was wondering if anyone knows the equal solution for the problem or what part of the board it is on this amp?

Is there a GK tech here anywhere that can help?

Giving a thump when turned on and off is common with older swr's and some other amps as they don't have circuitry to prevent that, capacitors charging/draining etc., although I've never heard any GK do that, would consider it an indicator of something going wrong there.

I wouldn't give it a second's thought. That happens with a lot of amps.

Is the amp brand new out of the box or did you get it used? If it's new then send it in and have your warranty cover you. GK amps that come fresh out of their factory these days have relays installed for A. disconnecting your speakers from your amp in the event of a fault (like a short circuit) and B. complete muting during power up and down specifically so that you don't hear the "pop." I think these relays were introduced with the 1000RB and 2000RB amps and continued to be used in the 1001RB and 1001RB-II etc. models. I had a bit of an issue with them in my 2000RB come to think of it. Older GK models don't have these relays so amps like the 800RB will thump on power up and down. Your amp however is not supposed to do it and something is out of place. I would get it looked at. Or perhaps the great B-String will come along and enlighten us?
