GK 1001RB Problem...Please Help.

So tonight some funky things started happening with my rig. I run the GK 1001RB at 4 Ohms into a SWR Goliath III and Big Ben (both cabs are 8 ohms obviously). I keep the tweeter off on the Goliath.

Immediately after turning the rig on I notice an underlying fuzz under the sound coming from the speakers while playing. The sound then started to teeter from the muffled fuzzy tone to my desired punchy fat thick tone with no fuzz...back and forth at random, all the while there are rather loud random clicks or pops.

I....

a) turned down the volume on my bass all the way...still the clicking and popping

b) pulled the cable from the input jack...still the clicking and popping

c) turned down the preamp section all the way...still the clicking and popping

d) turned down the power section all the way...still the clicking and popping

Also for the "fuzz" issue, I plugged my bass strait into the fx return, and running signal through the power amp only, the fuzz is still there. For those of you who say I've blow the speakers...nope. I know quite well what a blow voice coil sounds like.

So, with no signal source and both preamp and power amp sections turned all the way down, my amp is still clicking and popping at random and when playing through the amp it goes back and forth from great to crap and the amp is giving me fuzz.

My initial though is that it's time for a new preamp tube, but my problems are still present when the preamp is turned all the way down. So do I have a blown power section? What's it usually cost to get my amp looked at/fixed by the manufacturer?

Thoughts?????....

Thanks,

Dave

Thanks,

Send it back to GK for repair. I have 2 1001RB-II heads that came down with this initially one right after the other. Both finally quit for good, turned out to be something in the preamp.

I think there were a bunch of these heads that came down with this problem, made about 5 years or so ago (like mine)....

Mine have worked fine since getting them back from GK, tho, so it's a fixable problem....
