GK 1001rb2 humidity? or keyboard?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello,
I am playing a keyboard into my GK 1001rbII head half the time in my band, and then switching to bass for the other half of the set. When I switch from one instrument to the other, I leave the amp's power on, but depress the mute function.

Lately, when I switch to bass guitar and take the mute off, there is no sound, then some popping, then the bass volume gradually rises and sounds distorted. After about 1 minute the volume is normal and clear and the popping disappears. If I switch back to keyboard, I have no problems, but everytime I switch to bass the same thing happens again. I just recently replaced the 9V battery in my stingray.

Also notable: we have a very damp and humid basement that usually has a large dehumidifier running. The past 3 or so weeks the dehumidifier has been broken and I am wondering if keeping the amp in that humid environment could be causing the problem.

Any advice or similar experiences would be helpful.
Thanks.

Update:
this problem seems to be unique to the type of bass I mainly use. I plugged in my (also) active fender jazz bass, no problems at all, plug the stingray back in, again the low volume and gradual increase to normal volume (distorted at first, then clears up).

Any ideas?
Could this be related to impedance of the input or something.
Is this more likely a problem in my head, or in the stingray's electronics?

if it works perfectly with your keyboard and your other bass, it seems that you stingray has a problem, and IMO, its impedance doesn't have anything to do with it.

Clean or replace the input jack on the Stingray (the jack also engages the battery for the on board preamp).

great suggestion: do you have any tips for how to clean the jack? a small brush or some type of cleaner/oil?

Deoxit on a q-tip first, then a short spray into the jack and work several times with a cleaned plug.

Ok, so in case anyone was following this thread, weird happenings are definitely coming from my SR5. The bass is only a few years old, and the battery was replaced about 1 month ago with a brand new one. The weird sounds and volume fluctuations seem to have changed when I opened/shut the battery casing door. I pulled the battery housing out and wiggled some wires (all looked intact) and re-inserted. Seems to be playing normally now. Has anyone else had this problem with their stingray's battery housing?
