GK 1001rbII cab match up

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm thinking of buying the GK 1001rbII used, seen a deal for it and thought I'd go for it. I would like to know if it's a good idea to use it with my ampeg 4x10hlf?

I know the cab is rated at 500 watts and this head puts out 700.

Thanks

Depends on what you mean by "good idea". Does that mean, "Will it sound good"? Does it mean, "Will I blow the drivers?"

For the record, there's no problem using this combination from a power handling perspective. To see how well the cab is holding up to the head at a given volume level, simply use your ears. And when necessary, turn it down.

I've used the GK RB1001 II via the Ampeg HLF 4x10 on many occasion....
i wouldn't worry....like chocolate & peanutbutter man, ... {a good thing}
(just watch the Vol. in some halls, can be a woofy situtation at higher Vol's..with "That Cab")

and if you want to know {somewhat} about proper pairing of the RB 1001 II,
...this is coming straight from RAG's mouth; (on an unrelated question) ...

It will be ok, but you would get better performance from the Neo212,
...which is set up for the 1001RB.

Ok, thanks! What I meant by good idea was "Will it blow the drivers".

If you hear the speakers distorting, straining, and/or farting, turn down the low end content on the head. I also suggest not pushing the 5/4 string button - the 5 string setting adds a bunch of extra low end which your 410hlf will put out - this will cut back on your available headroom out of the head.

Otherwise, I would not worry about the cab.

it should be a great match, but i'd recommend that since the SVT410HLF already has ALOT of low end, on a 1001RBII, i wouldn't run it with the 4/5 string switch depressed (which boosts the head's low end at 30hz).

That's what I was trying to get at! Thanks for clarifying.

...not with normal use...HLF can take alot, it's built for it...{agreed on the 4st / 5st button issue}

i dunno..lol..but if you're playing 7 string death metal at 130dB, i'm sure you 'can' blow the speakers
..along with your ears....)
