GK 2001rb over MB500?

Sign in to disble this ad
Allknowing TB,

I recently got a new GK MB500 for 3800 units of my currency. I have now the opportunity to acquire a 2 year old GK 2001rb in a rack for 4000 currency units.

The 500W of the MB500 is "sufficient" for my needs so far, so extra the power of the 2001 is not so much a factor (as far as I can predict although the extra headroom might make a substantial difference).

The weight difference (20+ kilo difference) is not so important, either.

My question is rather how much more of an amp tone-wise is the 2001? Is there a night and day difference? Is the MB500 but a toy in comparison?

Cheers

I've owned both, and even at the same time to compare. Keep in mind it was back in 2008, so my memory might be a little fuzzy.

That said, I remember the two being tonally more similar than different. I remember liking the 2001RB more than the MB, but not by a wide margin.

Ultimately if you already have the MB, and you're happy with the tone and power, I wouldn't bother getting the 2001RB. I'd use those funds somewhere else

The 2001RB is just over twice the amp of the MB500 it is a brut that is easily tamed as well. 2001RB is the current flagship from G-K and that sounds like one heck of a deal!

I also found it be too good a deal to pass up, really (GAS!). I don't need the amp at all, actually I need a second cab much more and definitely another bass somewhere down the line.

I was kind of figuring I might even make a profit by acquiring the 2001rb and selling it on later ...

But thanks for the inputs. Appreciate it.

The 2001 is an absolute beast. One of my favorite amps that I have ever owned.
