GK 212 vs 410 regarding deep punchy bass

Sign in to disble this ad
hi everyone. I'm looking into getting a new cab and i was wondering which cab would have more of a punchy and deep low end, a 212 or a 410? the cabs i'm looking at are the Gk neo 212 and 410, if that helps. I've looked all over the internet and get very mixed opinions on which cab is deeper, or more punchy. so im hoping you guys could lean me towards what cab would best suit me and the sound im looking for. thanks

Since there are no measurements available for either cab there's no way to predict which will be better for your taste. Others who have compared them side by side may have opinions as to which they like better, but if their opinion of what constitutes "more of a punchy and deep low end" isn't the same as yours then they won't do you much good. Try them both. And other stuff as well, there's no reason to restrict your choices to one brand.

You'll have to check with your own ears. It's what sounds good to you.
I play on 2x12's but, i think 4x10's are more punchy.
I feel that my 12's are more like a faster 15,a little more old school warmth with a bit of modern punch. Some call this sound muddy. Some say 10's are the perfect sound.Others feel 10's have too much mids and not enough lows.
The brand of cab will also have alot to do with the the sound.
Try out everything you can and get what sounds best to you.

I own/play GK Neo 112's & 212's. The GK cabs you're thinking about are both extremely capable and very high quality. Either cab can deliver thunderous lows and "in your chest" punch. Some folks simply prefer 10's or 12's or 15's for whatever reason.

As has been advised already, there's simply no substitute for playing each cab, through your amp, with your instrument.

On another note, personally I wouldn't go to a 410 cab. I know, in some folks view it's the wrong reason... but... I'm over lifting heavy 410 cabs in and out of my truck, and up stairs.

I'm older and pick my equipment for both tone AND comfort.

I'm sort of mulling around this idea too, but I have definitely decided on a 212 cab. I have a customed built LDS 212/Horn cab that I love, but that stays in the band truck most of the time. I play semi-regulary with a Blues band and need a 212/tweeter type cab for that gig. I will also be buying used, so I'm looking for the best used value. I did try the GK Series II, 112, and, although it was loud, it was'nt loud enough, or low enough, even for my 4 string Jazz. Seemed to bottom out at louder volumes. Would the 212 solve this problem? I'm not really going for a Duck Dunn tone here, something a little more modern in tone. The GB Neox 212T looks good, and I have played one before, although not in this context. Also, I never played a 410 cab that I could actually hear all that well, or was light enough to schlepp.
