Here is a question, I hope someone can help me with.
I have an original 400RB from 1989 with a permanently attached power cord that is way short- something like two to three feet long.
Can I (easily) replace the entire cord, should I splice to make it longer or should I use a heavy duty extension cord as necessary (which would essentially be always)?
Opinions...

I find I'd rather have the longer cord- I'm going to get a nice 6 to 10 foot extension cord and it will still fit in the rack case.

So I bought this case for it off eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...#ht_3162wt_911

...anyways, a good ol' trusty orange extenstion cord works wonders.

Opinions... | I did this about 10 years ago to mine (my ex-wife's rabbit chrewed through the original)
It was dead easy to replace, but as I recall, the original chord is NOT grounded... so you either have to use a 2 prong replacement, or do what I did - take a standard computer cable, cut off the IBM female connector and just use the hot and neutral leads, leaving the ground unconnected. Works fine. I don't think I even had to solder anything... but it has been a while!
