GK 400RBII questions.

Okay, when I was trying out basses this past Saturday I plugged into a used GK 400RBII combo. Couldn't remember the model....had to call and ask the store.

260 watts thru 2-10" speakers. For what it was this little amp KICKED!! Sure it won't compete with 500 watts going thru a couple of 4X10 cabs but for my immediate needs something like this would be perfect. Small, lightweight, nice grab and go amp with a great tone and they want $270.00 for it!! Amazing sound for such a little amp and offhand it sounds like a no brainer. The amp also looks brand new. Other than playing at church (where my bass goes direct) I'm not in a band, so it's not like I need anything that's going to level walls. But I do jam on occasion with friends.

However, I'm always a tad leary when I find out an item is discontinued by the maker. Doesn't always mean that's a bad thing, but sometimes it does.

I tried looking online for reviews but all I found were reviews for an even older model, the 400RB, where this amp is the 400RBII.

So, can anybody fill in the gaps for me about this particular amp? I always try to do my homework before making any musical puchases.

Thank you for your time.

The 400RB II added a detachable power cord to the 400RB. Thats about it as far as function goes.

A detachable power cord? Well, I was hoping for some info that was a bit more informative.

Sorry not much changed with the rev II, the case took on a new look and the detachable power cord were the big change. The rev III saw more power, the rev IV still more power, better cooling over the III and a voicing change. If you like what you read of the 400RB reviews, that still applies to the 400RB II.

Thank you. Yeah, it sounded pretty good but as I said, I try to do a bit of research before buying something, especially if it's a discontinued model. I'm going to further check it out.

Thanks for the pic's and the info, Thunder Pulse.

Well, as far as the model number I'm going by the info the salesperson gave me over the phone and he said, "RB400-2....with Roman numerals for the number 2. So it's possible that he looked at it wrong if in fact no such amp was made by GK.

Of what I recall it looked more like the 400 RBIV that you've shown, as far as where the placement of the GK name is...on top of the controls vs on the bottom of the controls. Jeez....my mind must really be going hay-wire these days because I do not recall the port between the two speakers!! The other thing I don't recall are the angle cuts on the cabinet. I remember the box being rectangular in shape. (Please don't tell me my memory is getting THAT bad!!). I was just totally focused on two things: the Ibanez 755 bass I was playing and the sound coming from the amp.

Well, I guess I'll find out soon enough. Thanks for your time.....and have you seen my car keys?
