GK 700RB - which cab?

Sign in to disble this ad
What type of cab would you recommend to get the most out of the 700RB? Keeping it clean at the loudest volume possible, should I get a 4ohm cab or get an 8ohm now and another 8ohm later? Would it be loud enough unmic'd with and 8ohm cab? Thanks guys!

Don't if it can help, but I use a Epifani UL-410 with my 700-RB and it sound sweet, and I can't think of a situation where I would need more power.

If I wanted to keep things clean, then I'd go 2 GK Neo 112's, so that I'd be running at 4ohms.

In my situation, I like to have it a bit grunty and growly, so I tend to use as few cabs as I can, keep the load at 8ohms, and then push the head. Keeping it clean would just be the opposite...... Do what you can to keep some headroom.

IMO, a 700RB has plenty of power into any reasonably efficient 8 Ohm cab. I play mine into a Goliath III 4x10 and only add a cab on loud outdoor shows. Even then it's not necessary, but I do it just because i can.

Your sig has a Goldline 4x10 which uses some relatively low power handling drivers, so I'd be hesitant to pump those very hard. If you're looking for a clean but powerful cab, try a fEarful type 15+6. Lowdown Sound will build to order if you're not equipped to DIY. If you like four tens, I highly recommend SWR Goliath or Golight lines. They really compliment a 700RB well.
Avatar users seem to like their 4x10s as well.

Depending on your budget I would go with Avatar, Mesa, or Genz Benz.

I like the sound of 12s and that much wattage going into a pair of 12s will give me all the volume I need. As such, I'd pick up a 4 ohm 2x12 from one of the brands I mentioned above.

A 4 ohm 4x10 will tend to go a bit louder than it's 2x12 counterpart so you may want to go that way if you like 10s.

A pair of Bag End 15s would probably rock your world as well.

True, there are many quality cabs that will mate well with a 700RB, but there's no good reason to go 4 Ohms ,IMO. An 8 ohm will get as loud as you need and leave the door open for adding a second cab when desired.

Now that I am more familiar with the GK bi-amp system, I find myself preferring GK cabs with my GK heads. Although GK heads will certainly work just fine with any other brand out there. I might suggest maybe an 8-ohm Neo212-II now, and then either a second Neo212-II or a Neo410, later. Alternately, if you think that two 12" drivers would be all that you need, a 4-ohm Neo212-II or two Neo112-II's would be fantastic with that head.

Tom.

Yeah, GK heads match up well with many cabs. Back in the 90's, my fave setup was a GK head atop an Eden cab loaded w/tens.
