Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all,
I'm interested in getting a 700rb II mainly because of that GK Boost control which apparently is the secret behind adding the "growl" to your tone on that amp. I notice it's in the Bi-Amp section on the front panel. I have a couple of Non GK cabinets i plan on using that can't take advantage of the GK bi amp system. however, i want to be able to use that boost control to overdrive my sound.
Does the boost work on Non GK Cabs? Can you get that GK Growl?
Thanks!

Thanks! | Don't sweat it. Just run it full range and you'll love it. Boost will work. Just make sure the Woofer Cut button is not engaged, and you'll have a full range signal to your cabs.

Less gank, click and other noises. Also takes the "edge" off when I'm playing distorted blues/rock "leads" in the upper registers. Pretty much the same as turning your tweeter way down.
The only time I disengage the Woofer Cut is when I'm using an old school woofer-only cab.
YMMV, of course.

YMMV, of course. | That makes some sense. The Woofer Cut affects signals above 5K, so if you don't need a lot of brightness, you might not even notice the absence of those frequencies.

Most bass guitars put out little, if any, musical content above 5-6K. If I were a slap/pop or pick player, I might want some click...but I'm not. I prefer the "clack" I can get by adding a little fingernail to ghost notes with the rolloff at 5K, rather than the "click" with a higher rolloff and full range cabs.
The 5K rolloff also helps me sound more "guitar-like" when playing "guitar" solos. Think about it: Very few (if any) guitar speakers reach above 5K. The owners manual for the old MusicMan guitar amps actually bragged about having a 7K low pass filter.
Side note: Another advantage to the Woofer Cut is that I can send a post EQ signal to the board and not worry about things getting too shrill and edgy if I kick in some heavy distortion.

Sure does, and you sure can - I've had a 700rb-II for several years now, and done atleast a couple hundred gigs with one... Cabs that have sounded great with it include:
Mesa PH610, 810, and 215
SWR's Goliath Sr and Megoliath
Ampeg's SVT810e and 410HLF
It also totally kicks ass out of my Peavey 215D-BW that's Kappa LFA loaded... I mostly use a Mesa M-pulse 600 for gigging, but really don't mind using my 700rb-II, either - it's really that good...

I imagine the 700rb-II would as well.
If you want super clean, go 1001rb-II
If you want grit go with the 700rb-II |

and;
I have played my 800RB and 700RBII through my Goliath III, and can say that it is one of the best rigs I've ever used! IMO
