GK 800RB issues

Sign in to disble this ad
I run the GK 800rb with two 8 ohm cabinets in the low section, no biamp; one SVT-15e and one SVT-48he.The other night at a gig I noticed that my signal was starting to crackle a bit. I checked all my cables and they were fine, but then went around to the back and found out that one of the cables had come unplugged from one the 48he cabinet. One end of the cable was still plugged into the head, however. I also noticed a fairly prominent burning smell and knew there was trouble.

When I got home I ran the amp into the same cabs without any bass plugged into its input and it produced a loud hum with intermittent crackling. I plan on taking it into a service center ASAP, but I'd like to get an idea of what the issues could be before I take it in and find out what kind of costs I'm looking at. Could the unplugged cable have caused this damage, and if so, what components might have failed in this case?

Thanks in advance for all the help.

If the cable was just loose but still in the jack it could have shorted the output (bad news), the output devices overheated. Crackling is normally the effects return jack internal contacts being dirty, the hum may be something more serious.
