GK 800rb vs SWR SM500 ??

Sign in to disble this ad
I use a SWR SM 500 and love the way it sounds, and have my tone a dialed in.... I have to go to a new to me recording studio tonight to lay down some bass tracks for a friend who is doin an album. So I asked the owner /engineer if i should bring my bass head and 2x10 mesa cab and he said hes got a bass amp for me. So I look up some pics from his website and see he has a GK 800rb and a 2x10 hartke and some 4x10 not sure what brand. My concern is Ive never used a GK 800rb and Im used to my SWR tone, Im sure i can dial in a decent tone on the GK but will it suffer in the recording sound of my bass?? and does the GK have a good eq?
Ill be recording Reggae music.

Any thoughts would be great... Im gonna bring my stuff and have it in the car just in case.

Thanks

the 800RB is an excellent sounding amp, becoming a latter day classic. Great eq well designed for getting a variety of killer bass tones. It's different than the SWR sound, though, which is considered more "scooped" than the GK's more punchy grindy mids. But like any good amp, you'll be able find something useful in there tone-wise, esp w/the cabs you've listed. Enjoy, always fun to try a new amp/brand

Hit the mid scoop button on the GK, and then eq it. That should get you pretty close to your SWR sound.
