GK Cab Info Request

Sign in to disble this ad
I’m considering adding the GK crossover assembly to one of my cabs to take advantage of the horn bi-amp on my 700rb.
This:
GK Store: CROSSOVER ASSEMBLY w/Bi-amp

Before I proceed, I need to know the dimensions of the plate. Could someone with a GK cab measure the input plate and post it for me?
Thanks -Bill

You do not need the GK crossover to use the bi-amp function. You can install a 4-pole speakon connector (your cab might already have one) and wire 1+/1- to woofer and 2+/2- to tweeter.

+1

The crossover is only needed when you're not using the separate little tweeter amp. ie: just plugging a regular amp into the cab.

Thanks Guys,
I'd also like to have the option of using this cab with other heads that don't have the HBA feature.

Just looking for some dimensions.

You don't need dimensions. As stated above, you can use a normal 1/4" or 2-wire speakon and use the cab "normally, and you can get/buy/make a 4 wire speakon cable and use the GK's biamp capability as well. Either, or. No re-wiring, no added crossover. You just need the right cable.

I guess that's one way to find out. I didn't think this would be such a tough question.

I just measured one on a Neo 410. It is 7.5" wide x 4" tall and has rounded corners.

Page 3 of the users manual has a drawing of it:

Out of curiosity, doesn't he need a switch to bypass the existing crossover when biamping, assuming that a crossover and tweeter already exists in his current cab?

That’s the crux of the biscuit as it were. My existing cab doesn’t have a crossover. I have a single 15 that I want to add a horn to. I’d like to use the HBA feature of my GK head, but I also need a passive crossover when using it with my other amps. The GK crossover assembly seemed like a good choice for both scenarios. I wanted to know the dimensions to see if it would fit within the cut out and bracing structure of my existing single 15.

If you'd have explained that in your first post, this whole thing would've made a lot more sense.

You may have also gotten some more productive ideas. Even an off-the-shelf crossover and budget midrange driver would be a helluva lot more representative of your bass sound than whatever 5k tweeter you're grafting on to a 15.

My question was simply “what are the dimensions of the input plate on a GK cab?”
Premierbass graciously answered. My thanks to him.
