GK cabinet opinions...HELP!!!

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys, I need some opinions as to what new cabinet setup to get.....I just sold my Ampeg 810e on account of weight issues.... I had my heart set on a GK NEO 412 to accompany my FAVORITE bass head, a GK 1001rb....then I came across the idea of buying TWO neo 212 cabs instead......I was wondering what differences in sound they could have on account of the slightly different dimensions............oh and the 412 is 4ohms, and the two 212 cabs are 8ohms each...........WHICH SETUP WOULD YOU GO WITH AND WHY? THANKS!

Not sure about sound differences, but I went with dual 2x12's for versatility. I can leave one cab at home if I want. You can stack them vertically instead of just horizontal. Easier to transport 2 small/light cabs than one large one.

I have two NEO212-II cabs under a 1001RB-II and it is the ultimate in tone and sheer power. I am able to fit both cabs, my amp, and my bass in my tiny little Honda FIT. Since both cabs are 8 ohm cabs, it's a 4 ohm combined load and it draws all 700 watts from the 1001 RB-II, just like the NEO 412 does. I've never played through the 412, but if you want more portability and less weight, the 212's each only weigh about 50 lbs.

To be honest, I've never yet needed the volume of two 212's. I tried it once using both cabs for a loud worship service in a large church, and I was totally overpowering the band, and had to turn WAY down. Now I just use one cab which is plenty loud for my needs. In fact I'm debating whether or not to sell my second 212. You might only need one cab; I probably wouldn't buy them both at the same time if I were you since one very well might be loud enough for your needs, especially with the 1001RB providing the juice!

I use a NEO 212-II but its 4 ohms so my 700RB can give it the full 480W it deserves

LOVE the stuff.

oh and the horn biamp thing is awesome if you know how to sue it. It can be a real asset.

I recently purchased 2 NEO 2/12 cabs and I sit a 2001RB on top,.....very nice! I love the tone of the 12's.....been using 4x10's for years now and although I still like them, this is better...and yes some gigs you may only need one, but 2 is killer!

I try to get as much growl going out of my gk heads as possible, so I try to use as little cabinet as possible.... cranked GK heads and lots of cone area doesn't always make my band real happy on smaller stages!...LOL! Having the option of being able to take just one smaller cabinet instead of one big one is nice.

Good choice, also the two 212's stack higher than a single 412 so if you are playing a super loud gig you'll have no probs hearing yourself with those 12's higher up.
