Which GK do I get?

I'm considering a GK to replace the amp I'm using now(Hartke HA2000). But, I've found two that I'm interested in. It's either a 400RB-IV or a Backline 600. Both are similar in power ratings, and I've only played the Backline, and even then, at low volumes. I play in a band(three, really). I play metal with one, R&B originals with the other, and covers with the last one. I plan on using my Peavey 2x15, as I've never really had a problem with it, so I don't see any reason to change. So, how has everyone's experiences been with each, and what should I be aware of in terms of limitations and problems?

If anyone can suggest another amp around this price and power, then that would be appreciated. I need, a minimum of 200 watts, and the amp can't cost more than $300(I'm looking for used stuff).

I think the RB series is generally considered better quality than the Backline. I've known RB's to perform flawlessly for 20 years. I've no personal experience with the Backline products.

If you have an OD pedal go with the 400RB-IV, nicer sounding preamp IMHO. The BL600 has the same power amp but the preamp has an OD channel and overall a little grittier (again IMHO) than the 400RB-IV.

BTW the 400RB-IV is back in production and will replace the BL600.

If your CL is good, either of those should be able to be picked up for about $100 or so, I have the BL600 and I feel it's essentially the same; 400RB might be easier to sell to more than just people getting a new head but the value would be about the same. I think Backline just has a way of creating it's own stigma, it's a great amp.

Not playing devils advocate, but just curious as to what you are having as far as issues with the HA2000? ... not sure which version you have, but I have had a BL and an RB as well as the HA2000 and have found the Hartke actually capable of both more volume and more tonal options in general, I have my Hartke for sale simply because of size issues ... and, the Hartke generally sells for less, so you will lose money in the change ... believe me, I understand the need to change for the sake of change ... but just curious ...

I have a HA3000 you could have cheap, tone has no comparison to my G-Ks, especially out front. Different stokes?

I think mine has a problem with the power section, it'll make a loud droning sound, and it'll stop when I turn it off and back on. And, I just need a little more power. I can get the HA2000 there, but it gets warm/hot. I've gotten some great sounds from this amp, and it has always worked, even with the aforementioned problem, but I wanted to change it up a little.

Yeah. I expected so. I'll get the 400RB. Finally, a good amp.
