I bet they'd pricematch RMC if you talk right. | Probably very true except for the fact that I live close to two hours (one way) from the nearest one. I don't recall seeing any GK gear the last time that I was there - just a bunch of Markbass and other brands that didn't interest me.
I'm narrowed down to three choices (Fusion 550 , MB Fusion 500 , and the MB 800) and I'm sure that either one of those would suit my preferences and music style just fine. I'm pretty much into clean , punchy , warm , and headroom. I may need a touch of grit or growl occasionally , but by no means am I an overdrive or distortion guy. I think all three of my choices could nail what I'm after. I could just write all three choices on small pieces of paper and pull one out of a hat. lol. Almost everyone who owns these heads seem quite pleased with them.

| | Wisconsin Bassist Club Member #1 | | Join Date: Mar 2009 Location: Northern Wisconsin | | I decided to go with the MB 800 for various reasons. See my post in the MB 800 thread if you are curious why. I will definitely keep checking in with this thread to see how you Fusion users are doing. Also curious about the MB Fusion 800 when it is released even though I won't be in the market for one of those anytime soon (or my wife will leave me!!). I personally don't like getting an amp when it is 1st released because for some reason I feel like a Guinea Pig. Anyways - looking forward to reading more posts in this thread. I'm sure you are all glad that I finally made my decision and don't have to deal with all my questions (at least until my MB 800 and Neo 212-II cabs arrive ). Lol. Thanks to everybody for all their advice and input. I really appreciate it.

Can you blame me?!? Some people were nice about it - some weren't. Don't act like I'm the only person on Talkbass who asks for advice on deciding between what amp to purchase. Enough said...

Trouble is, this is the second time this head has given me fits at a job.
First time it started to fail (6 weeks or so ago) it came out of it (we thought it might have been the building's wiring and such), this time it's gone.
I also had two of the early mb2's fail on me when I was auditioning them in store.
LOVE the sound of the s.s. pre of the mb2-500 when it is working properly, I'm just not sure I want to continue with the 500 series.
I'm alittle leery of em' now.
I might also say, I'm a LONG time user of G.K. heads (since 1984), this is the first time I've had any problem.

I appreciate that you were being careful.

I should have known that you were joking because you have been more than helpful to me. I really had a tough decision not to try another Fusion 550 because it sounded so friggin' sweet. I figure that once the MB Fusion 800 hits the market I may be able to pick up a used Fusion 500 (or maybe a 550) for a decent price. Kinda like with the Shuttle 9.0. People loved and raved about their Shuttle 9.0's until the SM9.2 came out. All of a sudden there were (and still are) a bunch up for sale for fairly cheap. I'm not saying that will be the case here , but who knows.

Too bad new production tubes are not as reliable as the "old days". I keep my 800RB as a backup even though I have several replacement tubes around. Just never seem to get around to working on my own stuff in a timely manor.
Your gonna like it a lot

Your gonna like it a lot | I totally agree. That's what make the MB800 so different (to me) from the 200/500 iterations. The 800 just starts to gets that harmonic goodness that tubers are known for. I mean, they are all in the same family but the 800 hits you sooo hard it's incredible for the size of that box. Just does not compute in my brain.
If the Fusion (did I spell it right Chef?) 800 gets even MORE of that harmonic goodness I'll have no choice but to shake it down.

Will your MB800 give you that when you want?
One more question to a MB800 owner, the one thing that I've loved about GK's is their fast feel.
Does the 800 exhibit that?
Thanks. |

I had a MB2 500 (revision 7) that I just traded, and never had even the slightest hiccup from it. GREAT micro IMO. Hopefully they'll get it figured out and make it right for you. I totally understand being gun shy with it though.
